GAME RECAP: Penguins vs. Capitals (01.02.24) | New Year Old Rivals

Tuesday night, the Pittsburgh Penguins hosted an old rival, the Washinton Capitals. Wasting no time, Tom Wilson scored in the opening minute of the game to give Washington an early lead. Beck Malenstyn, Martin Fehervary, and Alex Ovechkin also all got a goal of their own in the 1st. With 4 seconds left in the first, the Penguins got on the board. Ricard Rakell took a one-timer from the high slot. The 1st period ended with a score of 4-1 in favor of the Capitals. Halfway through the 2nd period on the power play, Sidney Crosby redirected the puck in on the backdoor. With about a minute left in the 2nd, Jake Guentzel also on the backdoor tapped his own goal in. Pittsburgh started a good effort comeback, with multiple power play opportunities and pulling the goalie for the extra attacker. The game remained 4-3 through the rest of the game.

  1. Has Jarry not been pulled from like 8 straight games other than that one stellar game recently? Ned's gotta be the go to for a while.

  2. Jarry choking again. Pens fans still confused at why the Pens lose. Don't blame Jarry at all. It's not his fault.

  3. I'm Still trying to figure out what was worse: The Penguins first period performance or the commentary provided by ESPN for the game?
