What happened to the Buffalo Sabres Offense?

What happened to the Buffalo Sabers [Applause] Offense what’s up everybody and welcome back to another episode of Sports Talk Buffalo pardon my voice as I am starting to lose it I am not feeling very well however nothing will stop me from continuing to do videos for you last season the sabers looked to be finally

Turning the corner after missing the Playoffs by just one point and winning more than 40 games for the first time since the 2010 2011 season this was largely due to the fact that the Sabres had an incredibly potent offense in which it finished third overall in the entire NHL last yearas season scoring

296 goals or 3.6 goals per game they scored more than three goals in 40 of their games last season however this season it’s been more of the same losing hockey that we have grown accustomed to here in Western New York and why may you ask well it’s because of the incredible regression of

This Buffalo Sabers offense which currently sits at just1 goals in their 38 games played that equates to just 2.9 goals per game at this current Pace the Buffalo Sabres would finish with nearly 57 goals less than they did last season and score more more than three goals in a game just 21

Times the worst part is the Sabers defense hasn’t even been all that much better as than last season as they were on Pace to give up just 16 less goals than they did last year the Buffalo Sabers came into this season and they wanted to focus more on defense to try

To help them win more games and not necessarily have to score as many goals as they did however it has completely backfired on them as they have not gotten much better on defense and gotten much much worse offensively before we go any further I want to remind you guys to like

Subscribe and hit that notification Bell so you guys never miss a video I talk bills Sabers and the University at Buffalo men’s basketball and football teams right here on this page also remember to check out some cool merch the links are in the description below so who is underperforming this

Season for the Buffalo Sabers that is giving them such Dreadful offensive numbers look no further than number one Center Tage Thompson who after two very strong years simply isn’t producing at the rate that we have grown a accustomed to over the last two seasons that we’ve seen Tage

Thompson play injuries have played a part I’ll be at a small one this season however he is on Pace for just 54 points in 76 games provided he misses no more time this season on Pace for just 26 goals and 28 assists that’s not something that

You want to see out of your number one Center that you just signed longterm as he has lacked in for another six years with this Buffalo Sabers group there is no question that if the Sabers want to be successful they need much much more from number 72 another player who has struggled all

Season long I have mentioned his name before is Dylan cousins who just signed a 7year contract extension after what looked like a big breakout season that saw him score nearly 70 points however this season he has seen an incredibly steep decline in terms of offensive production as he is on Pace

For only 44 points just 13 goals and 31 assists in 80 games this season the only player the only player in terms of centers that seems to be building on their successes from last season JJ petera is one of them but a rookie year he has been I think a little

Bit better and has been driving play more this season but the only player to build on last season is Casey middl stad who is currently on Pace for career highs across the offensive board in goals he’s on Pace for 21 in assists he’s on Pace for 45 and points on Pace for

66 however they currently have Casey midat buried on the third line with an 18-year-old rookie and a career third line player in Jordan Greenway now don’t get me wrong I did expect some offensive regression this season after last season they were just incredibly potent on offense I knew that they struggled on

Defense and that coming into this season they would focus a little bit more on defense however we haven’t seen the type of improvement defensively that I thought we would and it would appear that the sabes no longer are capable of providing the offense to offset their defensive inefficiencies and the worst part about

All of this a majority of this Buffalo Sabers team is signed for many years to come so how do the Buffalo Sabers fix this let me know in the comments section below what you guys guys think I want to remind you guys to like subscribe and hit that notification Bell and as

Always have a fantastic week

The Buffalo Sabres offense has struggled all season.

  1. It's like another other Sport. After being known for Scoring goals, the rest of the NHL took notice and looked at film 📽️. Seen how other teams shut them down, and used a similar formula, our team hasn't been adaptable to what the opponent has countered, and as a result, 'doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result is the definition of insanity', and these aren't my words. The same old script sucks, and the results speak for themselves

  2. It feels of that the majority of the team has taken a step back – you might expect one or two players – but the WHOLE team basically? Odd.

  3. I’d love to see some trades but the god honest truth is most players probably have Buffalo on their no trade list. It’s going to have to be more or less this group that figures it out.

  4. 14 players contracts will be up…..Keep perterka, mittelstadt, maybe a couple of iffys, there should be at least 10 new players on this team. Erik Johnson and Jokiharju need to be replaced

  5. For me it started in the pre-season. Zero chemistry, mixing the lines. Donny messed up the magic. The boys are carrying last year's success and failures into this season.

  6. This Sabres defence has absolutely no help from these so called offensive superstars don’t hit don’t block shots,Cozens on penalty kill is a joke

  7. So we resign mittelstadt this offseason, where will the money come from to sign Quinn,Peterka,Benson, Savoie, Kulich, Rosen, Östlund, R Johnson, Levi, UPL etc…?

  8. Not enough Canadians, too many rich kid Americans and Euros. They get stomped some nights and don’t even get angry.

  9. When an entire team struggles like this, it's almost always some mental issue. Usually it's the coaching staffs job to get the best out of their players. Sometimes leadership within the player group helps. I'm not even a Sabres fan, yet I'm so dissappointed. The Sabres were so exciting to watch last season and Thompson was quickly becoming one of my favorite players. It's all gone now.

  10. Cozens, Tuch and Tage all started slow, Quinn was out…Tage is hurt all the time and so is Tuch, sit Tage out the rest of the season so he can build some muscle. Tage looks like an old man on the ice, skating so slow and gently, he looks like he has a groin pull and a broken wrist.

  11. The league has figured out how to stop the quick tranisition puck moving, no contact and no net traffic traffic Sabres! Zone them out !
Last year , teams tried to keep up with the Sabres but towards the end of last season teams started to figure out to stop the Sabres …1-3-1 zone .
When the NYR did this on opening night, I knew it was going to be a long season.
Granato needs to go asap as does D coach Marty Wilford! Hire an experienced coach like Gallant, Berube or Boudreau who will hold players accountable, and make sure the team is strong and tough enough in front of BOTH nets! Question is will Pegula spend $$ on the Sabres. To me , he doesnt care about the Sabres since his Bills are winning and making $$, but thats a rant for another day!
Thanks for the video keep up the good work!

  12. to me its past the management and coaching. its above it. starts at the top with the ownership. To me I feel Terry has fully abandoned this team for the shiny toy (The Buffalo Bills) As he is ALWAYS at them games. I don't know when the last time I have seen him at a Sabres game. He continues to let this gm and coaching staff remain bland. No shake ups no pressure applied. It starts with our owner and sad to say I don't see it changing any time soon. Pegulas has ruined this franchise with his neglectful attitude. we are suffering the most as fans.
