Possibly my favourite moment in the game. Love to see Benoit hauling two white jerseys out of the scrum. I still want to get more defence before the deadline but nobody makes it to the cup with their top 6 D intact and Benoit’s exactly the kind of blue line depth I’d want to have.

I think Benoit has earned a long hard look as a potential 6th D come game 1 of the playoffs.
You always set the tone early and if say we face Florida and Knies takes a dirty hit again, but this time Benoit shows up and curb stomps Bennet, Tkachuk, or even fights the entire team like a caged beast, they might think twice about going after a Leafs sweater, for fear of a very very angry Poutine Canadian that’s begging to be let loose again.

Great game all around from the Leafs. They were uncharacteristically scrappy while forechecking, rock solid defensively, Jonesy earned the shutout and they did not let the Kings push them around physically at all despite an obvious size disadvantage.
My heart skipped a beat when Matthews went into the boards like that, but it looked worse in real time than it did on replay tbh. All the same, they piled in to defend their star teammate and you have to love that from a team that is not known for being rough.

Dubois and Matthews hate each other. I still don’t know how Dubois didn’t get a suspension when he pressed Matthew’s face into the ice a couple seasons ago. Flames got their Breadman sent 5 games for that dangerous shit.

After reading the comments about; Benoit’s 2 man chokehold, Matthews telling Grundstrom to stop the Marner facewash, McCabe losing the gloves and looking for some action, THIS is how a team responds… I had to download the video. One thing I noticed that noone has mentioned, when I saw the game live, I thought Matthews just.. Fell. But Dubois clearly pushed his right skate and that’s how he lost his balance.
