  1. Why would they be "bad" next year? The % of cap Willy would be getting with this extension + cap going up + money coming off the books all comes out in the wash. Remove Samsonsov from the equation, which we know is a guarantee, and you actually have even more available cap lol. What a horrendous analysis.

  2. Bad next year because of a raise for the team's second best player? Cap is going up and a player like Sammy is coming off the books. The team will technically have even more cap to play with… what a horrible analysis this is.

  3. does anyone really care given the disaster this team is? — only adding to the problem-too many spoiled brats that don't do enuff given what they are paid — get rid of the 'stars' and get some guys that are willing to work their azzes off – and the the other 'lesser' players will get the message

  4. Thank you for the content!! All we need is the right advice on how to invest in crypto and we will be set for life, I made over a million dollars from trading this year regardless of the market conditions😊🎉🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤

  5. Leafs will only have four guys making $11+ for one season. JT will likely resign at much less than $11mil. The cap goes up next season. Willie and Matthews will eat that up with their contract increases. With the cap increases over the next two seasons, it is more likely there will be some overpayments for middling players this coming offseason. At least the Leafs will be putting it towards key core players.

  6. Looks good ,so the Leafs will have great regular seasons and tank in the playoffs because they have all their money tied up on 5 guys. That means they could only afford garbage players for the rest of the 18 ,which is what they have.

  7. I think the biggest issue is that despite how many people are SURELY going to be cringing at the dollar amount, whatever it may be… it's really tough to argue against Nylander getting a raise. Last night, he was the first Leaf on the team to get to 50 points this season, in thirty-something games. Strictly in terms of getting points, he's statistically the best Leaf on the team right now. And he's been one of the more consistent performers when the Leafs are in the playoffs, which we ALL know has been an issue with others. Like it or not, Nylander provides tangible value to this roster, and it's in the organization's best interests to keep him around.

So let's consider some other things. Like, say, trading someone away to make room on the cap. Matthews? Not gonna happen. Tavarez? Ditto. Marner? He's really the only option to get significant money back, but that full no-move clause kicked in last July, so Marner's not going anywhere unless Marner says he's going somewhere. And besides, any trade involving Marner is going to be a trade down, that's just a fact. As much as the fanbase LOVES to hate him, he's considered an elite player for a reason.

So instead, let's look at this another way. The cap is going up next year, so that'll give the organization more wiggle room. Samsonov is on waivers for the foreseeable future, so his contract is a non-factor. Woll is showing a lot of promise and has been a GREAT deal in terms of his contract, and Jones is doing surprisingly well on back-up duty for similar. JT took a discount to sign with the Leafs, and it wouldn't be shocking if he did so again. The Leafs have room to sign Nylander to a strong deal. Tavarez is in his prime, and the rest of the core are entering theirs. Get them secured long term, and keep building the team around them as cap space allows. I think fans are too quick to suggest burning it all to the ground when things don't go their way. You've got generational talent on this team right now, you have to use it while you can.

  8. Somehow the fans seem to think that a trade is the quick easy solution to the defensive and goaltending issues. Occasionally you see a team grab a pound of gold for a pound of feathers (Sergachev for Drouin) but that is rare. And the Leafs have more than one need. A knee-jerk trade just for the sake of appearing to do something is counter productive, especially if draft picks are involved.

  9. It’s the first year he is in this position of being the leader on the team. He also has never hit 100points, never-ever. So don’t tell me he is worth it at that much. He is getting better but still a floater.

  10. Next contract Tavares takes a pay cut and Marner gets a small raise if any probably traded if possible. Next year Brody at 5 million and Samsonov at 3.5 come off the books so no big worries.

  11. Good day gents! I do enjoy your content, reporting and updates, but can I make a suggestion? I recommend labelling your videos differently. Instead of calling everything HUGE, simply identify it for what it contains summarily. Like Nylander Contract Update/Trade Rumours/Pre-Game Roster Update, etc. Half the time I don’t bother watching because of the This Is HUGE title. It can simply be misleading and disappointing, and doesn’t serve the content as it should. Cheers!

  12. I think it’s a great deal for eight years the amount of points that he’s putting up per game. He’s the best leaf player right now and you do not want this guy to walk at the end of the year there’s gonna be so many teams going after this guyagain eight years that’s a better contract and Auston Matthews four years that tells you a lot about his character. I’m happy with 11.2 million.

  13. Last night Friedman said that if it a 8 years deal the aav range 8.8m to 9.8m and if it 7 years the aav range is 11m to 13m from what Friedman said last night in 2 intermission but it a wait and see and some of the money could be signing bonus and if the leafs give no trade clause it could be less.

  14. For a team to sign nylander for 7 years 90 mill. it would be almost 13 mil a season. Im not sure teams would risk it. Also He needs to give the leafs some flexibility, For move down the road. Same with Marner. Gave all the core 4 NMC is just the muskoka 5 all over again.
