Old Caps looked completely gassed while young Devils were well rested. Both teams were starting AHLers and it showed, especially for Washington. At least it looks like Ovi is finally cooking again.
What a game by Dostal but in the end the team that played better won!
I can't stress this enough. Dostal needs to be with a contending team. He can't be having 50+ save games and losing like that.

Thank god the Leafs pulled out the win. Another loss against a bottom feeder would've been rage inducing. However, the Leafs play a home and with San Jose starting Saturday. We'll see what happens

Dostal nearly stole the game, but in the end the Leafs constant pressure final got em to crack.

You all see the intermission conversation on sportsnet during the Leafs game where they talked about the intentional high stick and the guys were saying it was absolutely the way to go to send a message?
Not only did the Ducks give up 57 SOG, they blocked 24 and who knows how many missed the net. It was a shooting gallery and Dostal had the shutout through 50 shots. Ducks look as bad as last year.

Leafs fan here, and that roughing penalty on Killorn was an absolute joke. I'd have been livid if the situation had been reversed. Kudos to Dostal for putting up a hell of a game.

Dostal was incredible and is far and away the first star, credit the leafs for getting totally goalied and sticking with it and finding a way to get it done anyway. McManns hit was clean, shoulder to shoulder he even stopped up 2 minutes maximum if the refs are feeling generous with the whistle… 5 and a game is totally absurd. Benoit earned that belt he's been exactly what the defense needed. That Jones pickup is making Treliving look real good right now.
Ducks / Leafs reminds me of Canada v Latvia in 2014. Goalie standing on their head (albeit lots of low danger shots) until the better team won late.

I don't know how many times this past pre season i heard really negative things about him and Quick…Being a long time Kings fan from the days of Marcel Dion(yes, pre Gretzky, and yes, i'm old) , i take it personal when these guys get bad mouthed, given their lifetime stats…they've both had very good seasons when called upon to bail out their respective teams number one…

I don't understand the 5min game misconduct for McMann. Shoulder to shoulder hit, but it happened the player hit was away from the boards and unfortunately went into them.
Why can't we talk about Jones' .930 save percentage
The Devils need more games like this, and fewer ones where they have to be bailed out by high-end talent.
Kinda wanted to see a Tony the Tiger magnet up there for Dostal even though it wasnt a shutout because any time you have 50+ saves and let in just 1 in regulation you were GRRREEEAAT. Especially since the refs had to look for penalties to gift to Toronto to give them the PP chances. Its not like Im upset about the calls that went against the Ducks since other than Killorn its not like we were innocent but it would be nice if while playing a home game we could have some of those tick tack calls go our way, what a novel concept that would be. Way it goes for Anaheim I was honestly shocked the McMann penalty stayed 5 minutes and wasnt just removed altogether to give Toronto a PP there too

Dostal is getting checked for rubber poisoning. Guy stood on his head and deserved better in the end. Martin Jones was also impressive in a back to back, good to see his game back. People forget how good he was in the 2016 run for the Sharks.
