All season it has felt like everything comes back to Sorokin. But I’ve found it odd that his stats don’t match how often it feels like we win a game or steal a point due to his effort. Then I came across [this thread](https://x.com/MikeKellyNHL/status/1742286674023887091?s=20).
A clear factor is the health of the defense. I am not Lane’s biggest fan and do believe this team has talent that could do better under a different coach, but a) the defensive health argument is valid and b) I’m not convinced there’s a better option available currently.
So I’m stuck between two outlooks. Either the Isles get healthy, tighten up defensively, and start reaching towards a higher ceiling or it all crumbles with Varly now hurt and a few “off” (by his standards) nights from Sorokin. Really hoping it’s the former but a strong case can be made for both.

despite all the blown leads, we’re a top team in the metro. if the team can tighten that up in the second half, the ceiling is pretty high tbh. the “FIRE LANE” stuff after a bad game seems ridiculous when you consider where the team is in the standings.
All I know is every game Ive watched, the opposition is within 5 feet of our goal 90% of the game. And every game Ive watched the opposition has at least doubled up on shots on goal to ours. Piss poor puck possession and really poor defense more often than not…. Sorokin is the absolute LAST person to blame for anything.
