NHL Highlights | Red Wings vs. Kings – January 4, 2023
Robby Fabbri potted a pair of goals and backup Alex Lyon was solid in net making 40 saves as the Detroit Red Wings outlasted the Los Angeles Kings in a shootout 4-3.
Kings last month games is like kings games from 3-4y ago. No stability, just random results. Need to get back on track if we want some post season results.
Kings hockey at home is just an empty feeling. I'll admit there was effort tonight, and I actually believe they were the better team too, but you have to win. Especially after 3 straight games of incompetent and incomplete hockey. You can't just say "Well, they played good." No, they have to play good AND win in front of their fans. Losing 12 of your 19 home games is unacceptable.
I didn't even bother putting the game back on after the second period. Not even when I got the notification for Kempe tying the game. I just said to myself "Oh, cool. We're going to get a point." Like, that shouldn't be my thought process when my team ties the game late. I should feel ecstatic and hyped up, but instead, the only excitement I feel is the 1 point they'll secure at home. Which is something you'll hear a fan say when their team plays on the road, but not Kings fans. We're lucky if they can get a point in their own building.
I honestly believe that on this 6 game road trip LA will be on they will win at least 4 of those games. Probably go 4-1-1 at the worst. I shouldn't have higher expectations for my team going on a long road trip against playoff teams, than I should for my team on a 3 game home stand against teams who have won the same amount of games that they've lost, or worse. That's hockey in Los Angeles though.
On a positive note: Lyon had a great game, and the Redwings as team played great too. Definitely deserved the win tonight. Like I said earlier, I don't think they were the better team, but they played their game, and were able to tip the scales in their favor, and force LA to play at their pace. Redwings in the playoffs could be crazy fun. Hopefully this game motivates them to go on a push here to put them back into a playoff spot.
this is the most lucky and undeserving win Ive seen from the wings in a long time every goal was pure luck with no skill back to it at all they really don't deserve this win
Kings are making adjustments to their overall game. They proved they have enough firepower to be a #1 team even without Arvidsson in the lineup. I can see they're trying to do two things: 1) be more of a 90 minute squad instead of a 3rd period team; 2) getting Dubois and others back into the offensive flow so they don't lose it and become ineffective by the time the post season comes around; and some other minor stuff as well. So they aren't doing all of the same stuff as they were when going on their run earlier this season.
