How the Boston Bruins goalie hug came to be | NHL on ESPN
A shot oh what a stop there by swayman it ain’t over until the hugging’s done and there are the hugs that everybody loves singing Boston it was pretty spontaneous it was just knowing again what we go through every day how hard we compete against each other and practice
It’s just a natural thing we just want to hug each other right so the first time you did it it was just like spur of the moment I just want to hug this guy completely yeah he came in hot and I was I was expecting a hug but not the grand
Hug right and then it just kind of stuck and uh it’s special to to see what it’s formed into today why do you think it’s resonated with so many people it’s so pure I think because it’s not a show and every time you know each game has its
Own emotional swings and to understand you know what you go through once you win it’s like this release and wow we did it right and that’s that’s just kind of how it forms so that’s what uh that’s what we feel when we do it and here is
The hug I couldn’t be happier with a goalie partner in him right away I knew it was going to be special to have uh goalie um you know understanding that it’s a team game and not an individual game because goalie could be an individual sport at times and to know
That we go through the same things every day and that we’re going to support support each other every day uh that was special so it’s a tight Bond
ESPN’s Emily Kaplan speaks with Boston goaltender Jeremy Swayman about how his postgame hug with fellow Bruins goalie Linus Ullmark came to be.
