A radio host in Calgary laid this out pretty well 20 years ago saying that we take these high school kids and put them through a meat ginder over a tournament no one else in the world cares about.

U20 is high school? I mean it could be, but only for the most gifted hockey players. The bulk of the players are university aged.

I don’t think there was a Canadian team that had Marchand Crosby Perry etc on one team that was ever that dominant.
