Old Defense is the problem, and goal tending. How many picks has Stevie Y had? There only two picks on the team as of today. He's either all about waiting to bring them up or he didn't draft as good as Detroit thinks he did.
It's that consistent need to dump and chase, the non aggressive forcheck because our defense is too spongy and the defense being too spongy lol. They look great and then make the dumbest plays

The goaltending is shaky, but the defense is just plain bad. There are way too many defensive zone lapses where opponents are aloud to hang out in front of our goal without any coverage or physical obstruction. I'm not sure if the blame falls on the players or coaching staff, but something needs to be done quick or they will be watching the playoffs on tv again this year.
It’s not time to panic or to just give up on them. They are only 2 or 3 point behind. December was overall bad because of the Sweden trip, injuries, and just the amount of hockey they had to play. They’re human beings. But they are still in it man. They just won 2 in a row and Kaner is really producing. It’s all about confidence. Their goaltending is starting to look better and the D is beginning to play more responsibly. There is still an entire half of season of hockey to go. To give up on them and say, they aren’t making it because of the latest slide is premature.
I agree with you on Copp however. Not happy with him at all. I’d love to see them get rid of him.
And Steve Yzerman is definitely not the problem. Let’s keep in mind that next season we’ve got Sandin Pellikka and Nate Danielson coming. Also Edvinsson, Wallinder, and Johansson are looking pretty good. Kasper? Mazur? It takes time. Blaming Yzerman is hilarious. Not that you are, but some people do.
Team defense is a problem for sure. And it’s not just all on the defensemen, it’s their entire team defensive play in the Dzone and the odd man rushes they give up.
I’m not very confident that they’ll make playoffs this year. It’s nice to score goals and have big name guys. But if they can’t play consistent, no way they pass all these other teams that have games in hand on them.
Lalonde needs to pick it up ! Hes doing too much mixing lines and players! Not much talent on defense and goal . Only one good d man Sieder and goaltending mediocer allowing 4-5 goals a game which doesnt get you in playoffs!
