I simply can no longer be convinced that keeping Simon in the AHL makes sense when guys like Justin Holl are consistently getting playing time… Are first pairing minutes in the AHL really that much more valuable than a higher-usage third-pairing in the NHL, on a team working to make a playoff run?

I understand our “Best Pairings” are likely:

    Walman – Seider

    Chiarot – Petry

    Ghost – Maata

I still remain unconvinced Simon doesn’t improve that group… He may need the coaches to give him a couple games to acclimate to NHL speed (and not just 1-2), but at some point he needs to be thrown in there and allowed to prove himself.

His contract is aging poorly. He hasn’t been outright “bad”, but it’s clear he’s one of the first options (maybe the first) to sit in the press box and he’s not even halfway into the first year of this deal yet. I understand we aren’t privy to who else we were interested in during FA and who among them even had interest in coming here, but if Holl’s grip on an every-night spot was that weak before the ink was even dry, then why did we give him that contract? At least Petry has more offense to his game for less term and money. We should be striving to avoid the Copp and Holl types in FA.

I’m not really sure what the thought of signing him was. Obvious overpay, and takes up a spot for 3 years.

  4. Justin Holl has nothing to do with Simon Edvinsson’s development path.

Ed is in the AHL because the Detroit Red Wings believe that is what’s best for his development. End of story.

I think he’s gone as far as he can in the AHL. It’s time for management to see what he can do at the top level. He’s got offensive upside and size that they can use in the lineup. I think management hand is forced to do something. Let’s give him a shot.

Top line minutes in the AHL is worth more for development than fourth line minutes in the nhl

Of those 6 petry is odd man out. We need defensemen that actually play defense. Lines should be
    Chariot walman
    Seider matta
    Ghost edvinson

Bottom line we have 3 defenseman that are careless with puck, terrible getting puck out of zone, turn pucks over too much…and act like they’re offensive players not defensive. ghost Seider and Petry are all underwhelming as dmen. Walman, matta and chariot are the only d we have. Like I will repeat I’m sick of everyone kissing Seider ass and acting like he’s great. He isn’t!! He’s been trash this year at doing anything that a good defenseman in this league does. Turns pucks over constantly, fails to get pucks out of zone more than he succeeds, rarely blocks a shot, never hits anyone, always plays the puck not the man oh but he has as many goals as all of last year!!! Fuck if I care about that shit! We still haven’t won’t a game scoring less than 4 goals! Defensively we are a fuckin joke and it’s trash that Seider is on this weird pedestal like bertuzzi and truthfully Larkin as well have been put on. These fuckin guys are not half as good as we have made them out to be and if they don’t start stepping their game up they need to go the same way Bert did….somewhere else.

I don’t hate Holl but the contract we gave him is crazy. There was no need to give the term or dollars there and adding petry on top of it is just compounding the problem. Can you imagine how much more terrible it would be if Chairot wasn’t playing better than last season.

Yes, you ever play hockey? The difference between 12 minutes and 22 minutes is insanely huge. Pp/pk time is also key. Look at MO and his development path… He was drafted while playing with men, yet he still spent time in ahl and Sweden. You can see him getting so much better in ahl too.
