  1. That was surprisingly great audio of the coach when they were arguing…loved it!!! In about 10 years I’m sure you will post the Blackhawks Devils game from last night lol.

  2. Can't believe I'm printing this , but the Leafs should've never let Domi go when they initially drafted him

  3. God i love Jacques Demers, the man had fire and passion.

And he hated pretty much every Maple Leafs coach with the fire of a thousand suns lol.

  4. An excellent job by Vince Carroll.

Here are the highlights of the hate-filled game between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Detroit Red Wings on March 2nd, 1990.

There was some seriously bad blood between the teams, stemming from a high stick incident in December 1989, when Detroit’s Kevin McClelland injured Toronto’s Rob Ramage. The teams hated each other under normal circumstances, but this incident turned up the heat considerably.

Anticipating a rough night, Toronto called up a young ruffian named Tie Domi from the AHL to add more muscle to an already rugged lineup.

And a rough night it was. Fights aplenty, along with a cavalcade of hard checks, high sticks, elbows, slashes, and scrums. The Leafs had John Kordic, Brian Curran, Todd Gill, Luke Richardson, Domi, and others going to battle, while the Wings countered with Joey Kocur, Randy McKay, Chris McRae, Lee Norwood, Gerard Gallant, Daniel Shank, and McClelland.

Domi tried to go with Kocur, but unfortunately, the officials and other players got in the way. Kordic fought McRae. Kocur fought Curran. Domi and McRae were assessed misconducts twice for threatening each other. Kordic fought McKay. Gallant fought Thibadeau. Domi mugged McClelland. The goalie Reese slashed Shank near his groin. Gill nearly knocked McKay out with a check. Iafrate injured Kennedy with a hit. Norwood sidestepped a charging Domi and shoved him into the boards. Gill and Norwood even fought in overtime. Detroit Jacques Demers threw a fit and loudly screamed at the Toronto coach Carpenter, all caught on a hot mic.

Domi, in his debut game, left with an astounding 37 penalty minutes! A fine way to begin a career.

Lost in the mayhem was Detroit captain Steve Yzerman winning the game in overtime.

Thank you, Vin! This is some of the greatest Chuck Norris Division action of all time.

  5. Man, if Wendel was healthy and Probert wasn't suspended this game would've been even more chaotic than Avs/Wings Fight Night

  6. Great quality on this vid. Man, somone liked the Police. Saw Domi playing for Newmarket, and thought he was a tough customer.

  7. Please note in a game full of fights nobody attacked Todd Gill immediately for throwing a clean bodycheck. It was considered so part of the game McKay's own teammates immediately rushed to help him up instead of reacting like a crime had been committed for initiating clean contact in a contact sport.

  8. Wow, brings back memories for sure. This kind of hockey has my blood pumping just sitting here lol. Sure miss this kind of hockey, I guess we can always relive the good 'ol times whenever we want.

  9. lolrofl I remember when they called up Domi from the Newmarket Saints…heard about them bringing up this new kid from the Saints with 300+ penalty minutes, lolrofl… 10:26…the Leafs sucked back then but they were fun to watch, lol

  10. Wow, what a Leafs team that year, leading the NHL in penalties at that point in the season! And then to toss Tie Domi in there??? Hilarious! Love the shots of the empty benches at 11:48

  11. Come on man no one gives credit to the linesmen . Those poor guy's broke up more fights in one game than today's linesmen break up in an entire year. Plus the guy's they broke up were all savages. Joey Kocur used to crack CCM helmets his punches were so hard

  12. I had no idea Domi originally came up with Leafs. I’m thinking ‘1990 can’t be after Domi played with the Rangers and Jets.’ Also those old Leaf uniforms threw me off.

  13. I think the beginning of the broadcast says it all when they lead with glamour shots of the officiating crew…
    Hoggarth,Boze and Swedes!
    Love ol time hockey boys!!!

  14. all that rough stuff and like always… no one wants Kocur. What a lineup. I wish Probie and Wendell were in for this one. I remember watching this game live.
