  1. I'd let him walk (or trade him next deadline) and use that money to invest in D or bottom 6. He's been good at getting the Leafs to the playoffs. If you split that cash on a couple of ther assests I don't think you're worse off lol

  2. So it’s the old Willy contract. Problem is the 1 year overlap is a disaster with the 4 of them taking up over 50% of the cap including all of the cap increase next year

  3. you have to assume hes going to start falling off soon, and will need to be replaced as the 2nd line C. sure keep him. no more than 4mil per year, leave space to find a younger centremen out there

  4. @35 id go 2 years 3.5 mil aav max otherwise let him go. If he has a good playoffs the give him 4. But giving him another long term deal worth more then that is just bad cap management.

  5. He’s been a great addition to this team since joining the Leafs. He truly loves being a ‘Leaf’ & that matters. He should be signed long term & retire a TML.

  6. Leafs have a history of over paying . Which has led to five players eating up 50% of their cap. A strategy that has not improved their dismal record of one playoff round victory in 15 years. This is not the solution for success.

Then why is the new leaf's gm repeating the same mistakes. Next will be a huge bump in pay for Marner. As long as the fans keep on buying into it. Why change?

  7. I would like to see JT retire a Leaf. But I also want him to take a Joe Thornton, Spezza, Mark Giordano etc type deal. If he wants to leave money on the table so it can be spent on playoff style defence and goal tenders, that would go a long way to bringing him a well deserved cup. Like those previously mentioned, it's not like he needs the money and what doest he want for his legacy to read. Also time to pass the "C" on to AM34 or MR44 after his contract runs out.

  8. We gotta factor how much cap is going up by. I would say 1/2 his contract now at 5.5 million would be sufficient. Anyone saying below that hasn’t accounted for inflation of the cap and what JT can still do.

  9. How you can get through next year and being competator if/when you pay Matthews 1,5milj more and Nylander (maybe 4milj more) and Cap raise 4 milj? How you can get goalie or extra defenders? I dont say you cant, but i am interested to know what you John think about that challange? Tavares contract, if you want see Tavares retire as Leafs, I would recommend to give shorter and maybe bit pay more cap hit, than see situation where you maybe have to buy out his last seasons. Pavelski had three conference lost and one Final lost (as Captain) before signing with DAL (7milj).

  10. I bet he takes a huge discount to bring in pieces to win a cup. If he did that he’d be a hometown hero forever. Cement his status in the city. At least hoping. Not like a small discount – but a big one to set a point.

  11. JT will be 34/35… he needs to take a Bergeron/krecji type contact after fleecing leafs for the last contract.

  12. I rather Tavares give us the Bergeron treatment and sign for $1M plus incentives to help bring home the cup.

  13. He's the captain. Should get at least 8 and why wouldn't we want to ya know. He's cool and so underappreciated I think.

  14. @34 years old you offer 4 for 3yr or walk. After 35 your production can go off a cliff anytime, not a lot of Jagrs out there.
