The core 4 is a big drain on the cap. I don't think you can keep all 4 when Marner and Tavares' contract comes time to re-negotiate. Hurts the team overall. Can't spend $ for other good players. Leafs have been lucky with good depth on Marlies. Something's gotta give. I don't think they re-sign Tavares.

How many years now have we all complained about the core 4 taking up all the cap. Cap goes up a bit and the GM pays two contracts more than the cap goes up. This coming from a team already cap strapped and needing to now sign 9 players with 22 million next season. Keep doing what hasn’t worked and expect it too.
What gets me is how many of you are okay with this.
Great signing by the Leafs. Willy will deliver. His had his ups and downs, but the past 3 years, his evolve and looks only to be entering his prime. That’s great for the team.

Too much, too long, no movement = Leafs are going to remain a regular season team. We will lose key pieces this summer and continue to have to rely on a revolving door of bargain basement players to meet the overtaxed cap space. We are NOT a better team with this signing, it remains to be seen what the long term goal is regarding Marner and JT. We need to move on from 1 or both to build a playoff style back end.

Brad is racking up W's big and small. From bargain bin diamonds like Jones and Benoit to signing Matthhews and Nylander to long term deals. He had to hit the ground running when joined the Leafs and he's done a great job so far.👍
Nylander is a great player right now in the NHL. Now that he has signed a new extension let’s hope he doesn’t go back to his lazy and lack of caring attitude. Despite his success this year I’ve seen two occasions this year where his mistake or lack of effort resulted in the Leafs losing a game in over time.

The NHL salary cap, is projected to be another $5 Million dollars, so lets give it ALL to a goal suck/puck hog, who only started to play the penalty kill, this year!!!
But for some reason Treliving thinks Nylander, is better than Draisaitl in Edmonton, when he has never come close to putting his numbers as high as Draisaitl and he's only paid $8.8 million a year!!!
Obviously this management has lost their mind, when it comes to these contracts and I hope it costs someone their jobs, when they go nowhere in the playoffs!!!
The LEAFS now have a power play crew, that is worth $59.75 MILLION dollars, which means they should be putting the puck, in the net every time they step on the ice, will it happen, not a chance, because they are not worth the money, being paid!!!

Simply put, Nylander was underpaid last yr & this yr. So at the back end of this contract it evens out
I assume Tavares will lower his contract when it comes up. It will kind of match the balance of the upcoming Nylander but four guys taking half the salary available to make a whole team with no 10 million $ goalie and no 10 million $ defenseman??? Difficult to make a playoff competitive team. I enjoy this leaf team mind you but I don't see Stanley Cup potential unless these four guys become beasts.
