  1. Lol, I didn't think of this til you guys started talking about jersey numbers in contracts… 92 was Michael Nylander's number.

  2. Are you guys also forgetting that comparable players on other teams will now want near this so it handcuffs other teams as well and those other teams never planned for it, the Leafs have a plan. The cap will be about $100 million in 4 years or so, just enough time to get solid D, and Woll and Hildabeast will both be in their prime. Everyone needs to stop with the short-sightedness, it takes time to get everything put together and the right players available at the right time. Locking up the core is magnificent, now they can focus on the D for the next few seasons while the goalies I mentioned are gaining experience and becoming elite. GO LEAFS GO

  3. 13:00 … You don't need elite players in the NHL to win. You need an elite centre and an elite winger, an elite defenceman, and an elite goalie.

Toronto has two of those and less than zero money to get the other two.

  4. A year from now matthews 13.25 nylander 11.50 marner 12.5 Reilly 7.5 Tavares 7 million that’s 51 plus million on 5 players they better hope the salary cap goes up well beyond 100 million by then to fill out the rest of the team

  5. Adam and jesse shut up. I get ur saying no excuses but when u lose 5 or more players, essentially a full line, cause they r to good for the tournament then it is relavent cause its kot that out country isnt good, its that our top end is wayyy better

  6. 18:30 … Steve is exactly right here. The Leafs needed to trade one of their core and gotten MULTIPLE parts back, even if none of them were elite. Improve their D, improve in Goal, improve the depth.

  7. They are going to sign JT to a home town discount and lowball Marner. Then he walks away for nothing in return.
Should have trade Nylander for a DMan and a 1st

  8. I ran into a friend of Sam Lafferty's family the other day 😂 I'm in the minority of Pens fans who wants him back, though we'd need a different coach.

  9. 1:27:02 Ehhhh that's not necessarily fair Jesse. the Owner of the Sens wasnt "gotten rid of" he died. Melnyk's head was being called for before he died (i lived in Ottawa at the time and oh boy did hockey fans want him gone. so much so some were happy when they heard he died) but he wasnt moving cause I think the NHL doesnt want the headache of owners changing.

  10. There's zero chance Nylander would get over $13M in free agency. Teams don't have cap space for that. Which is why guys who are point per game players make 8-10. There's no market to pay a wing 13M.

  11. I think Adam and Jesse are looking at it wrong imho. Jesse mentioned what would you do TODAY with Nylander, well you need to look at what got the leafs in this situation. That was not moving someone when you could, now the core 4 is unmovable essentially and your in the exact same situation next year with Marner. According to Jesse, you CANT let Marner walk for nothing so you have to sign him for what ever.

The time to move one of the core four was after the Columbus series, now we are in a situation where you can't move one of the core four and we have another giant negotiation next season.

I agree with Steve, I love having Nylander on the team but I just don't see how you make it work.

  12. coming from a guy who's brother in law is British and has STORIES of what fans will say to players honestly the USA players kissing to the fans after beating the home team is just classic European sports. I think u probably cant get away with that at say the Olympics since their pros but considering these guys are a bunch of teens (i know something like 80 percent of team USA is in the NHL or has been drafted but to be a junior u're under 21 age wise so basically teens) its fine. The hilarious part is because of the USA drinking laws NONE OF THEM CAN DRINK ALCOHOL! Don't know if they were taking advantage of the fact they were in Sweden (i think u have to be 19 in Sweden to drink) so were drinking there but i would laugh so hard if the coaches or management said "sorry boys. We're Americans you guys arent 21 we cant pop some bubbly"

  13. Interesting thing about focusing on high-value players. The Jets moved Dubois and got 4 pieces back. One was a pick and one has been injured but it improved their depth and now they're the top team in the league because everyone one of their lines can do damage. If the top two lines aren't scoring, the bottom two are. You can't have 4 forwards plus Reilly plus a bunch of scrubs and no goaltending and expect to do anything in this league.

  14. To answer Jesse question of what should they do now..Sign and trade. Keep Willy for the playoffs and do a sign and trade after. Steve is right. They cannot win built like this. No team can.

  15. Is not about WIlly making 11.5 is not good (he deserves it in a vacuum)

It is because you now got 4 players on 10+ Mill cap hit next season (and 1D to make up 50+ mill) tied up making it a "not good decision". You got to build depth and with 21 mill next year, it is gonna be tough without letting go one of your contributors this season.

Not a single SC winning or competing team has more than 1 on absurd cap hit like Leafs did. Even Tampa 2022 (When they signed all their guys and lost the SCF) has better cap management. Frick, even OIlers can snap a good deal with RNH, Hyman and E.Kane.

Something reeks in TML and I don't know what it is.

  16. What do you mean you can't win an UFA negotiation? Go ask Kevin Cheveldayoff how it's done.
Granted it's not a Huberdough deal but Leaf's fans you're going to hate this so so very often.

  17. As to say on this episode, good job. Players need paid. Yet I understand Steve's frustration. We all see how it is. In the 90' teams told players walk, or trade them ( their problem to sign'em now). An now it seems like teams are on the ropes, but your analysis of the leafs cap is spot on. They don't want loose these guys, both frustrating and understandable.

  18. What a bunch of salty sore losers when it comes to the Panthers talk, complaining about Cousins when he’s currently out with a concussion from a hit from behind by Zucker who retaliated defending his player

  19. 1:04:00 … Pettersson never said he wasn't going to sign with the Canucks and the Canucks never said they weren't going to sign Pettersson.

Pettersson said he want to win and the Canucks said they wanted players who were excited to play here. In other words, the Canucks wanted to win to keep Pettersson happy, which means they were not going to rebuild.

  20. Nylander has a Modified NTC until June 30th and now has a guaranteed 8 year contract for potentials…

  21. In all of december, the jets let in 3 goals in only 1 game (against montreal) and they still got a point in the game cuz it was in overtime. They have been soooo good

  22. They should have traded him. This team is insane. They keep doing the same thing expecting different results. It’s not gonna work, ever…

  23. ONLY in Toronto do they CELEBRATE overpaying a(nother) guy who has done Jack Shyte – Nylander "performs" ONLY when its contract season – PERIOD – what the F have you (ever) done for me lately Willie-Boy ? – can I see that string of Stanley's to PROVE you are worth anything more than 5 million a season – NO ? – point taken

  24. I'd take 3 16-20 goal scorers over one 60. Nylander is worth 9 mil anywhere else in the league. Hopefully the leafs trade him before the deadline. Last chance to fix this horrendous error before Tree does another Huburduea.

  25. Why is it so hard for gms to understand. Trade when players are on their peaks and sign long term to players on a low. Value contacts win cups, expensive talent doesn't.

  26. You should have called it "William forever" as Willy is a leafs right now, right ? ^^
I mean, William Nylander is a Toronto Maple Leaf is not wrong 😀

  27. Next year will be bad. After that you never know. Once JT goes from 11 to 3-4 that’ll help.
Also Willy actually shows up when it matters.

  28. Parros played 2 years for the panthers at the end of his career btw and most everyone hated it because he was so awful

  29. Pretty fun seeing the revisionism with Lafferty. None of you appreciated him or saw the value in him so really you just owe the guy an apology.
