5 Second Half Fantasy Hockey Busts YOU Need to Trade Away | Cherry Pickin’

[Applause] [Applause] all right everybody welcome back into cherry picking today’s video we take another stab at a second half of the Season video now week 13 of the fantasy hockey season if you haven’t seen the six by lows that I gave out for the second half of the fantasy hockey season

Be sure to check that video on the owners box Channel be sure to like And subscribe before we get into the video but today’s video we’re going to be looking at some sell highs for the rest of the season a player at each position that if you have on your team I highly

Recommend trading or trying to get off your team before it’s too late these are all guys that are going to be at their Peak value I’m looking for players who shooting percentages are really high have a pretty low expected goals four number but goals on the ice are actually

A lot higher which means there is they are due for some regression and then looking at defenseman and goalies just looking at guys that might lose a little bit of ice time and then also a few starts so let’s get into today’s video all right so the first guy we’re looking

At we’re going to be looking at the center position and one guy I think that carries a little bit of value right now because of his past two months is Casey midat on the Buffalo Sabers certainly took this guy long enough to officially break out with 59 points last season

He’s starting to look a lot better this year already with 31 points through 38 games played but I think this is kind of a plateau for Middle Stat or at least this value for fantasy hockey wise and someone I think you can actually trade

Kind of a one for one for someone in the same position who I think will probably carry value for a lot higher value I should say for the rest of the season here so currently he’s the 129th ranked fantasy hockey skater and 44th at his position his position being centered

Right now with the remaining schedule for Buffalo it actually looks a little bit easier than it did uh the first half of the season for this team you know they the ninth easiest remaining schedule I know that probably looks good for Middle stack considering he currently leads the team in points but I

Think the point getting or scoring is going to come from just a lot of different areas for this Buffalo team I think the fact that Casey midat is their leading scorer and they’ve been so bad is kind of an indication of that as well you know there’s some superstars on

Their team two of their best players have missed times extended period of times that obviously helped Casey mdstat get into this position as the team leading scorer you know you had Tage Thompson missed nine games with an injury Alex tuck missed six games you know have a you now have an emerging

Zack Benson who actually is currently playing on Casey middle stats line and is probably the go-to guy in terms of actually scoring goals on that L line considering the other player on that line is Jordan Greenway right now but just some names that you can mention who

Could also kind of bleed into Casey middle stats production guys who haven’t had really had the greatest start to the season that’d be Jack Quinn you know JJ PKA a guy who’s starting to play a lot better this year and is is having a decent season right now he could cut

Into middle stats production as well along with you know Jeff Skinner zamus gurgenson is back in the lineup as well could eat into Casey middle stats time a little bit there and then Dylan cousins is the biggest one a guy who missed a couple games there uh in the in the

First half of the season and didn’t really have I think the first half that a lot of people were hoping to but he’s starting to play a lot better here as well and I think we’ll eat into maybe some of the higher minute times in terms

Of power play poundy kill you know final game situations where they need their best players on the ice as well so Casey middle stad is definitely guy going to be looking to trade for the rest of the season and I mentioned last year you know 59 points with 15 goals he already

Has 10 goals this season sure he might finish with 60 points now but there’s still a lot of games remaining and I think there’s definitely better value you can find somewhere else at the center position and definitely a guy would be high on my list in terms of a

Sell High candidate all right so the right winger we’re going to be selling high on in this video is Brock besser actually and I know that might comment a little bit of surprise considering the guy has had an incredible start to the year right now you know top five in goal

Scored in the NHL right now with 24 you know tied with Sam Reinhardt I believe the only person who has more goals than these two guys right now is Austin Matthews with Nikita kov kind of in a in a similar spot right there but right now he’s a fifth best right winger this

Season you know 22nd ranked fantasy hockey skater when you’re looking at Yahoo standards scoring the one biggest thing and the glaring thing you got to look at is his shooting percentage 24% shooting percentage you know he has 101 shots on the season which is a lot but

If you look at guys like COV and Austin Matthews who are scoring as many goals those guys are already you know near 150 plus shots at this point 101 shots he’s on Pace and has the same amount of shots as Tom Wilson right now and that I mean

Tom Wilson has like 20 points on the year not saying you can compare those guys like apples apples but just looking at someone that he’s comparing to in that sense and right now Brock B shooting percentage rocking with a 24% shooting percentage almost 25% is just not sustainable especially considering

His career shooting percentage is 133% and out of forward who have played 650 minutes this year he has the second highest shooting percentage the only guy that’s right there with him is Sam Reinhardt i’ like Sam Reinhardt a little bit more for the rest of the season but

He falls into the same kind of category and I think besser is a better uh sell High candidate just because of his name value I think Brock basser carries a little bit better name value than Sam Reinhardt does at this point of their both careers so I think Vancouver as a

Whole is due for some regression and as much as I want Brock besser you know score 50 plus goals he’s on a 53 goal Pace right now but with a 24% shooting percentage I find it very hard to believe that he’s going to get to that

Number now is 35 to 40 goals out of the question I don’t think so at all but it’s all about opportunity at this point if you have Brock besser on your team and you know you had him for 37 games and he scored 24 goals he’s not going to

Mimic that mirror for mirror in the second half of the Season you want to get rid of him for someone who maybe had a little bit of slow start of the season look at someone with a high expected goals four number a low shooting percentage and then try to take

Advantage of that I know I wouldn’t trade him for someone who has like no points but still look for someone in the top 20 range but there’s definitely a lot of volatility when looking at trade candidates for Brock besser at this point um so just looking at someone a

Very similar case to him and you know it’s not totally the same one but Bo Horvat did a very similar thing last year and I know they’re obviously not trying to trade Brock besser at this point but hor Horvat had 31 goals in 49 games last year

Uh while he was on the Vancouver Canucks with a 22% shooting percentage he did get traded to the aisles who obviously struggle a little bit more to score goals but still he had a shooting percentage in a very similar range uh that Brock besser does right now and

Then finished the second half of the Season his last 30 games with the Islanders he scored seven goals and had an 8% shooting percentage so something very similar could happen to Brock besser I don’t think it’ll be the exact same in terms of aggression of that big

Of a drop off but I think you can expect a very similar kind of thing to happen here for Brock in the second half of the Season which is definitely why you should try to trade him all right so the left Winger that we’re going to be

Selling high on for the second half of the season is Vladimir tereno on the Ottawa Senators now I know for you people who are in 10 to 12 uh man leagues in fantasy hockey terce Ango might not be a huge sell High candidate but for those of you guys who are in

Deeper leagues I definitely think this is a guy that you can be trading for a much better player for the second half of the season for one he still carries a little bit of trade value considering kind of his name value across the league obvious obviously was one of the top

Scorers in the NHL at one point of his career and also Ottawa has the most remaining games on their schedule compared to any other NHL team after playing the fewest games before the Christmas break so definitely has a little bit of trade value still there he

Also just had a great game scored two goals in a meaningless 63 loss to the Vancouver Canucks as well there but let’s just look at the month of December for Vladimir tereno you know just nine points and 31 shots that puts him seventh on the team in both of those

Categories now the one thing he is playing on a great line right now with Tim stel and Claude jaru but you know jacqu Martin is now taking over as they had coached for the Ottawa Senators and obviously what they’re putting the effort they’re putting out on the ice or

The product they’re putting out on the ice is not getting the job done so marttin will continue to switch these lines until he finally finds something that clicks maybe not necessarily the top line but a guy like Vladimir teraso is definitely dispensable or volatile in this lineup change in these lineup

Changes and just looking at his five on five ranks it kind of makes sense that this is going to be a guy that you’re going to want to get off your team for the remainder of of the season and has definitely been benefiting from some

Puck luck here if you look at his five on five ranks across the NHL this season his expected goals four number ranks 257th in the NHL his points in five on five which I believe is 15 five on five points that ranks 124th shots on net 290th and then High danger scoring

Chances 281st so that’s not a guy that really gives you a ton of confidence to believe oh he’s going to be better in the second half this season or he’s probably going to get a lot worse if you’re looking at kind of where he uh

Steps in right now uh there’s also a ton of other Ottawa players kind of similar to that buffalo buffalo situation that haven’t really proven to be playing their best brand of hockey in the first half of the Season where I think they can score at a much more consistent rate

In the second half like a guy like Brady kachuck Tim stutzel you know Josh Norris is just still coming back from not playing for a while he’s starting to score a lot more goals Drake bson is starting to play a lot better as well so terce ano might just get lost in the

Fold here so with too many Mouse de feed I obviously think that’s the biggest thing here for Vladimir ter Seno and just his onstyle play I don’t think has really been a huge proponent of someone that you’re going to want to keep on your fantasy hockey team especially a

Guy who’s playing 16 minutes per game currently ranked 30th at the left wing position and 165th in when we’re looking at all fantasy hockey skaters right now so definitely still has some trade value try to get Vladimir teraso off your team all right so the defenseman we’re going

To be selling high on is Shane gosis spear on the Detroit Red Wings um this is honestly a very obvious one for me a guy who’s definitely fallen down the ranks a little bit more recently as well had a really hot start to the season in terms of scoring for this Detroit team

Like a lot of players did and I think a lot of regression was due for this team considering they working off one of the highest shooting percentages in the NHL and obviously it’s going to trickle down from the forwards all the way down to the defenseman here who obviously aren’t

Shooting a ton 67 shots on the year for a Shane gosis spear he’s the 43rd ranked defenseman right now but with the amount of points you know he’s top 15 in points amongst defenseman right now tied with Michael mat with 27 at this point um the there’s a couple reasons why I don’t

Think Shane gosses spear is going to be able to keep up you know the same Pace that we’re at because he he’s right now he’s on for a season above 50 points and I think he could potentially get there but I think there’s a lot of factors

Kind of working against that for one the goalie situation for Detroit is very worrisome you know have whoo obviously on IR he hasn’t even been playing that great when he is healthy so now you’re kind of relying on James Rhymer a goalie who’s been around the league forever and

Then Alex lion a non-tested goalie you know really only came on in the scene last year and still even this year was coming into the Detroit Red wi season was third uh on the goalie depth chart playing in the AHL for a good part of

The first half of the season so the Red Wings are going to need defenseman who play defense Shane Gosa spear does not play defense that has been the biggest knock against him when he was in Philly even when he was in Arizona as well he’s great offensive defense defenseman very

Useful on the power play but we might see his ice time dwindle even more than it already has I say that because he’s averaging almost three minutes less per game than he was when he was playing in Arizona over the last two seasons where he averaged 22 and 23 minutes per game

This is a guy that you can’t really rely on defensively and I think Derek alone has kind of figured that out so if Detroit continues to battle for a playoff spot here gosip spear could get lost in this kind of defensive rotation if they continue to let up bad goals and

Their goal tending continues to be pretty bad here and you can kind of see it if you look at their recent game history you look at their last six game stretch he has four points which is great has a decent amount of shots on

Net as well but he’s Dash 11 I sorry I don’t care how good you are offensively as a defenseman Derrick alone isn’t going to continue to put you out there for 18 to 19 minutes per game if you’re consistently being a dash to when you’re you know your defenseman your main goal

Is to defend the puck and allow few chances getting to your pretty shitty and I would say shaky goal tending as well so gosip spear is definitely a guy I think you can still trade considering how many points he has right now and kind of how he’s utilized on this team

But I think his his role and his production will continue to kind of fall down here as the second half of the season starts starts so definitely try to trade him all right so the last one the goalie position the guy we’re going to be selling high on there were a

Couple I was kind of mulling over but I think this is the best candidate considering where he currently ranks in terms of fantasy hockey goalie standings right now and that’s Connor Ingram on the Arizona Coyotes his numbers so far this year I do have to give him credit

Because last year he was a horrible goenda average 920 save percentage and has four shut out I think that’s the reason we’re seeing him as a top 10 fantasy hockey goalie right now he’s the seventh best fantasy hockey goaling fantasy hockey goalie as it stands right now but there’s a couple

Reasons why I don’t think he’s really going to sustain this for the second half of the season for one I think Arizona is definitely playing over what they’re kind of set as I don’t think they’re a playoff team yet in the west at the beginning of the season I was a

Little bit more hopeful but I think there’s some teams in that Western Conference one being Edmonton and a couple other Western Conference teams that really had slow starts and are starting to play really well I think Minnesota is going to be a playoff team when it comes when it’s all said and

Done as well this year so that definitely doesn’t help him because you obviously want Conor Ingram to get wins the second thing is carav Amela has been playing unreal recently and has kind of almost I don’t want to say overtaken the starters crease again but it’s kind of

Close here he started five of the last seven games winning a decent amount of those games as well so the biggest concern there is I don’t think we’ll see Ingram have another month where he’s starting eight to nine games you know it could fall down to six or seven games

And you certainly don’t want that you know you want a guy like us Saros obviously you’re not going to be going to be able to trade Conor Ingram for us Saros but he’s starting you know 10 to 11 games per month you know Philip gusterson is a good example of when he

Comes back from injury or when he was playing before he was going to get up to 10 starts per month as well with a guy like flurry in the back end you really just want to make sure you have a guy on your team that’s going to be starting on

Every given night um obviously that’s the best case scenario for your goalies when playing fantasy hockey but the the biggest thing here too as I go back to it the yots have the 10th hardest remaining schedule and you can kind of figure that out as well if you look at

Who they played the first half of the season and just where they are points-wise as well you could see that a lot of their hard games will definitely be coming in the second half of the Season you know a perfect example they just played the Florida Panthers and end

Up losing that one 4-1 I believe so their offense isn’t that great I would say as well in terms of creating a volume of chances but defensively they’re even worse they’re bottom 12 in pretty much every category you can think of in five on five scoring chances allowed High danger chances allowed uh

Shots allowed and expected goals allowed as well so that doesn’t bode well for Caravel Mela or Conor Ingram to be very honest as well so those are two big factors on why I think Connor Ingram will regress I can almost guarantee he will not finish as a top 10 fantasy

Hockey goalie this year as he’s seventh I could seeing him finishing right around the 20th range um when it’s all said and done so there’s definitely some goalies right now who are in that 20th range who could definitely Vault up to that top 12 area so with how good of a

Two-month stretch Conor Ingram has had he’s definitely a sell High candidate and I would definitely try to get him off your team and off your roster if you’re able to all right thank you guys for tuning in let me know what you thought of the second half sell highs
