“He Stood On His Head” | Buffalo Sabres Forward Alex Tuch Praises Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen After Win

“He Stood On His Head” | Buffalo Sabres Forward Alex Tuch Praises Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen After Win

Uh just confident poised I’ve seen him play in his whole career I mean you know he’s got a shout out or two and but uh that was just so much confidence you know what couple goals against that ended up going back and he didn’t get rattled at all he went right back in

There made a couple really big saves on breakaways never wavered I thought he was reading the play really well those guys over there that make some really good plays they do a lot of side to side a lot of little high tip plays a lot of players that are pretty unique honestly

They’re a really skilled hockey team really veteran hockey team they find different ways to score and he showed him down tonight uh obviously I mean letting up a 5 and three that’s back door tap and that’s that’s obviously tough to save but I thought he stood on

His head and he was one of the biggest he’s probably the biggest reason why we won tonight uh but I think it took all 20 of us um think everyone was selling out blocking shots making plays hard to play against I know he gave up some

Shots but I think lot of it was from the outside you guys talk a lot about getting better every day I take a look at him breakaways alone I mean how much better he is right now than maybe he was even to start the season it just looks

Like he’s improved his game quite a bit in season you know what I think it really goes unset how hard he works in practice on little things like that he’s always doing extra work he’s always out there early I think both of our goalies do a really good job he always loves

Taking the breakaways he always loves playing T Puck playing rebound just learning about different shoot Shooters different um angles different Breakaway different moves everything like that and uh I think he’s continuing to learn about himself as goalie he’s continuing to gain confidence and uh I think right

Now we have a really good Tandem and uh we’re going to need them down the stretch especially with this home stretch coming in uh they’re going to be huge for us we’re going to lean heavily on our goal tending to to uh give us some momentum at times because it’s

Never going to be perfect our team knows that and we’re going to continue to learn and we’re going to continue to try to be better but we’re going to have to lean on guys uh like those two and uh tonight we were able to and uh they gives us confidence that gives us

Ability to um you know what to to be more confident defensively to maybe take a couple more chances offensively because we know that we’re going to get that save and um you know what sometimes we’re not going to get that save and when we don’t we’re going to try to work

Even harder to help him out and help both of them out Alex what do they say about this club you get the tough call the five and three they tie the game and you guys don’t say you guys end up pulling that game out yeah you know what

I I didn’t think we wavered I thought that their next shift they came out and tried to take it to us right away and we were able to break their pressure I think uh Opie made a big save we were able to break their pressure start going

Down the other end and uh Gussy krabsy and Robbie uh it was just a heck of a shift all around couple good opportunities plain simple broke him down mentally I thought and just shot from the point tip uh I don’t know I think Z whacked it in um it was just a

Hard net front battle sometimes it just takes a bouncing Puck to go any way uh but it was a lot of hard work and I thought we deserved that one tonight about getting that piano off your back getting two two WIS in a row here fin oh

Yeah that was nice that that feels good huh you guys uh new narrative no I’m just kidding um but no I I’m sure I’ll see a lot of tweets about it uh or I’ll see a lot of stuff on the internet I don’t even look for it ends up just

Popping up on my feed somehow but no it’s good I mean uh it I think it gives us some confidence especially a team that’s been playing so well to just um I don’t know play as a 20-man unit and continue to just work for each other

I thought we did that well tonight and uh getting that win is huge especially going into a huge homeand here I think we’re going to uh get some excited crowds uh coming in um you know what we’re going to have to play really well against a really good Seattle Kraken

Team right now I watched them the Winter Classic they look really good they’re playing really well they’re playing really structured and we’re going to have to try to play kind of a similar way to Pittsburgh we’re going to have to try to be patient uh try to outwork him

At times and at all times honestly and uh just go to work and I think that’s what we’ve been missing lately on a consistent basis but we’re going to do it now thanks you

Buffalo Sabres forward Alex Tuch spoke with the media after the team’s 3-1 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins on January 6, 2024. He talked about goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen’s success, special teams, and more.
