    SHOW NOTES:
    1) The graph I use to illustrate my point in segment 2 clearly only shows Detroit's 'Centers' despite me saying 'forwards'.

    Andrew Copp ain’t snake bitten as much as he’s just offensively incapable hahaha. 60 point career high isn’t exactly stellar when coming from playing on a line with wheeler / scheiffele and / or panarin / zebanejad. I don’t think he’s useless nor do I think the signing is even a problem really….we need nhl bodies and until we’re in cap trouble (which is no time soon) I’m of the belief that he has a positive impact as a leader, building an “earn your way” type culture, and as a solid option for line matching and penalty killing

    Nothing is going on with Andrew Copp..
    He’s very fortunate that he got a 5 x 5.5 contract that he’s literally going to loaf out, or until he gets waived or bought out.
    Compher is just a year or two behind becoming the next Copp.

    I’d retain 50% salary and trade him in the off season to Chicago if we could. Would even give up a 4th rd pick. They would get a defensive minded veteran center at an actually reasonable cap hit and we would just get him out of the way for Danielson/Kasper to eventually make the club. Ras/Veleno can fill his 3C roll until the kids make the club. I’d rather have the 2.75 mil in dead cap for retaining him for the next 3 seasons if it makes space for our prospects and if he’s going to be useless anyway. Compher just has made him expendable and Veleno/Ras can offer everything that Copp can at a cheaper price point and still have (slight) potential to become something better

    My spidey senses tell me copp wasn’t hurt… he got quiet benched.

    He’s been decent on the pk and he’s still an nhl’er but it’s the contract that makes it seem terrible.

    Copp only signed the contract, he didn’t write it.

    I would rather put a prospect like Kasper in the lineup then continue playing him..his head is definitely not in the game

    To put Copp in perspective, guess which other $5.5M player he's tied with in scoring, with 18 points in 39 games? Tyler Bertuzzi. He has one more point than $4.7M David Perron.
