Nylander Signs MASSIVE extension

William Nylander just signed an 8 year $11.5m extension with the Toronto Maple Leafs that’s worth $92million. That and more in today’s NHL hockey video!

  1. they could've gone for a goalie but instead, they spend 47,5% of their money on mattews , marner , nylander, tavares and riley

  2. Now watch the him tank would of traded him for the defence men you could of got or a good young goalie, just watch him start floating around

  3. $11.5 mil for a guy whose never hit 90 points even 1 time in his career and whose defensive play is mediocre at best LOL. Ya, seems about right for Toronto.

  4. its sad, because they basically need to sign him to stay competitive, but down the line this is going to hurt. It should be obvious what happens when most of your cap is gone to a select few guys.

  5. It's going to be pain for one year, then JT is off the books. If the leafs are smart, they'll let JT go if he doesn't sign a two or 3 year deal at 5 mil per max.

  6. As a former Leafs fan I honestly hope they never win another hockey game ever again. Remember the season Nylander was a holdout and the team was playing amazing until he came back? He doesn't help the team dynamic and they'll never win a cup as long as he's there.

  7. As a long-time fan of the leafs and as a man whose wife looks exactly like Eliot Friedman, I am happy about this trade. Only one team wins the cup every year but it is amazing to see your team in the playoffs, regardless of the outcome. Go Leafs Go!

  8. In the offseason there were so many comments asking if he was worth the $10 million that he was said to be asking for! His play this season, especially how he owned the Sweden trip, puts that all to rest. Of course he deserves the $11.5, it's a no-brainer.

  9. keep bertuzzi, don't resign domi, def don't resign samsonov, cap going up another 4m. at this rate marner takes a cut, and tarvares will definitely take a cut. you also don't resign klingass or whatever, and probably not brody

  10. Eck I just wanted to say I love your vids and as a fan of the nhl I can always count on your vids daily to see what big things are going on in the nhl

  11. No movement clauses on their big 4 contracts is brutal. It feels like JT would be the odd man out IF they could move him. D and goalies will cripple the leafs in due time.

  12. Life long Leaf guy doesn’t play the forecheck him and JT gotta go I’m glad Matthews finally started getting physical all my buddies that are casual love Willy until they actually sit down for a 60 and have me call out all his mistakes I don’t think there’s another player in the show straight up refusing to get involved in plays as much as Willy. JT is just as bad.

  13. Wonder who the odd man out is now. Keep hearing no one would probably take on Tavares contract to help the leafs. So maybe Marner? Hed look good next to bedard

  14. Is there no cap in NHL? How they pay everyone else? Or is this contract pretty small? If so why Nylander not look for more money? Or will they let Marner go?

  15. Awesome, all they need now is another $10 million dollar average forward and they'll be ready to advance to the quarter finals lmfao

  16. So stupid. An undersized winger who "gets points" with incredible line mates. You can't tell me this is better for their Cup odds than three 4-million guys.

  17. Hey I'm not saying Willie didn't deserve the $ He simply chose to get paid rather than a cup. With the continuation of signing 3 players to half of your cap your not going to have a great or even good team behind them..How long will your good players take deals under their value before they leave? How many prospects like Hyman get rotated out because you can't pay them what their worth at even $3 or $4 mil?. Don't even think about more than one good free agent that will take the pay cut because its Toronto. Good Luck because thats what it will eventually take to round out that roster.

  18. I’ll never understand the narrative around the Leafs… Everyone laughs at them when they fail EVERY year but when they keep locking up the core that has shown no sign of being the guys to lead the team to a cup, we praise them?

Is Nylander worth 11.5 million? Hell no… He’s a 1 dimensional player who isn’t a game breaker at that dimension (He’s useless outside of the offensive zone and while he’s having an elite year, he doesn’t have an Ovi/Pasta shot and he’s not an elite playmaker like Kuch or McDavid)…

This year is the first year I’m seeing him actually move his legs consistently with and without the puck in his 9 years in Toronto

On top of that, while he had been the best playoff performer amongst the core 4, that’s really not saying anything (it’s on par with saying chicken McNuggets are healthier than the other McDonald’s menu items)… Dude’s lack of physicality and defense is painfully obvious in the playoffs… I like Nylander but I’m too real; he’s getting paid more than David Pastrnak coming off 61 goal, 113 point year while also playing with some physicality… Does anyone else see the problem with that?

  19. Well… having the same core as the last couple years again is definitely not too inspiring given the lack of success in playoffs. However, the fact that the Tavares contract is almost up means that the 40M on 4 players narrative should end. Unless Marner asks for a lot and then it becomes ~40M for 3 players lol(Aftter this season, it will be Matthews + Nylander = 24.75M and Marner currently makes 10.93M). Though this does mean that for next season, it is 46.68M for the Core 4 next season.

  20. A pending free agent having a career year, surely, this is not gonna go wrong at all. But I mean, Tavares is taking a massive pay cut, or leaving, so…
But the problem is, this core hasn't made it, they are too soft, no success in the playoffs, and no goalies. This is gonna hurt them later on.

  21. This will be a terrible contract. The leafs big guys hustling want to pull every penny out they can regardless of winning or icing a decent team
