When You Piss Off An Entire NHL Fanbase

The Philadelphia Flyers said top prospect Cutter Gauthier didn’t want to play for them, so they sent him packing Monday, trading the forward to the Anaheim Ducks for defenseman Jamie Drysdale and a 2025 second-round draft pick.

Flyers general manager Danny Briere told reporters that the trade “was a long time coming.” Briere said when the team drafted Gauthier that the forward told the front office that he was “built to be a Flyer and wanted to be a Flyer” before ultimately changing his mind.

With all this drama, it’s something we’ve seen before with Eric Lindros. However, the Flyers role in that was slightly different…

  1. Poor kid probably getting shit from torts and couldn't handle it so he wanted out torts is doing a good job making players hate him

  2. Eric Lindros went into the draft saying that he will not play for the Quebec Nordics, having the strong belief they would not be a contender for the Cup for some time and that he and his family was not found on the French langague. Lindros rather sat out a full NHL season then play for them, demanding to be traded.
With Cutter Gauthier we have not the same scenario where the kid would not plain-out refuse to play.
Still Anaheim Ducks I hope will in a couple of years have some decent lines of scorers to win a Cup!

  3. And idk about just saying you're a fan of sid. he was a kid growing up and seeing crosby light it up constantly. It's like bedard growing up is well documented as a canucks fan, which makes sense as he was a north vancouver kid during the loungo and sedins time

  4. Of course THIS is they Flyers video that I get. Now I'm interested to see if Cutter agrees to play in Anaheim or if he holds out one more year and tries to shop himself around as a FA.

  5. Just like a real life 9 to 5 job, I can say no to where I want to work after meeting my bosses who may or may not be an asshole (sorry Torts).

  6. I am new for NHL. Can someone explain me what is a big deal?
Dude doesn't want to play with one team so he changed it for another.
    Nothing bad at first glance.

  7. Can I just say that I don't see the issue with this situation? I mean, if he signed and then didn't perform, it would have been worse for him and for the team with the cap and all that. I'd rather trade someone who doesn't want to play with my team rather than trying and force him into it.

  8. Not the same at all men get inform is the owner of the Nordic owner try to have sexe with is mother …. not the same at all lindros family kept this secret until a couple of years

  9. The privilege you have to ever be drafted in the NHL, let alone first round 5th overall. I don’t care about his reasons, I don’t like it. I thought it’s a big ego move. I’m not a Flyers fan, I just don’t like to see big opportunities like that taken for granted.

  10. I know they make great money, but why should these kids have zero say over where they'll be living and playing. I never understood the company man or foot soldier.

  11. I can respect both Eric's and Cutter's decisions, and their reasonings behind them. If it's against your principal, don't bend.

  12. See ya….Cutter! Have fun in the Wells Fargo Center lol.
As someone who bleeds orange and black….was excited to see him skating with my team. But…if he doesn't want to be there than fine…. don't want that cancer in the locker room. The culture is finally getting back to true Flyer Culture and the Flyers needed a coach like Trots to get that spirit back. That and… A Dman that can skate, QB the PP and help now…. I'm all for it. Suspect Drysdale is happy as most players are to play in Philly. It's a hockey town.
Who knows….the kid could wash out of the NHL. Not likely but it's happened. Now, I really hope that second round pick ends up being a great one…rub some salt in the wound eh….lol.
Oh and…life long Pens and Crysby fan? No accounting for taste. Good riddance!

  13. You’re playing a sport for millions of dollars, context matters but to the average person this is the most fucking spoiled rich kid thing to do ever. Ungrateful

  14. Philly has the best and worst sports fans. Literally, they have die hard amazing fans for all their sports franchises, but they also have the scariest, angriest, and most a$$holeish fans mixed in there

  15. Professional hockey is a job. If you don't like the company you work for, you look to make a change. Why should this be any different? The draft only gives teams rights to sign, not ownership of, a player. More players should exercise their rights within the system.

  16. Crazy to me that Lindros gets criticism for obviously having the moral upper hand in not wanting to play for someone accused of sexual harassment — more players should take a stance like that to not enable gross behavior in sports and imo we should praise a player for taking a stance based on morals instead of criticize them for some sort of "professionalism"…..

  17. Devils fan here. I genuinely don’t see why this is a big deal. I don’t play hockey but if I did and I ended up being drafted by the Rangers, I wouldn’t want to play for them either. So I really don’t see any issues with not wanting to play for a particular team. If anyone would like to (kindly) explain what everyone is so upset about, I’ll gladly listen, but it just really doesn’t seem like a big deal. Thoughts?

  18. I don’t think the kid deserves the hate he didn’t disrespect anyone he just made a choice he’s allowed to do that. I’m tired of the fans thinking hockey players should be dedicated to the team 100% and if they are not they are labeled as public enemy number 1. This could be the Torts effect not every player likes to play under Torts. Whatever the reason the guy played like 4 games with the Flyers not like he was here for years.

  19. The thing that got me is John leclair went there to talk to him .John leclair a American hall of fame player and cutter disrespected him.I don’t want too see this kid in a U.S. jersey ever again..soft kid..he better go buy a turtle shell because his skin ain’t thick enough

  20. Young players should want to play for Torts. He will instill in them the habits that will improve their overall game.

  21. What a ridiculous reason for not playing in philly. For being a pens fan? You're getting the chance to play in the nhl, and you refuse to play with a certain team because they are rivals with your favourite team growing up? I'm not a philly fan, but they should just send him to play in the minors for the rest of his career.

  22. Ducks have enough of an ego problem with Zegras. Don’t need to add this guy to the fire. Specially since Zegras and Jamie were close.

  23. It's his life and if he doesn't want to play there, it's his decision. People can get mad all they want, it doesn't concern them…a bunch of losers dissatisfied with their own life getting mad at a kid trying to better his…

  24. I think cutter is just a spoiled brat. It’s an honour to be drafted by any nhl team even if you’re first or last picked. Obviously he doesn’t realize how lucky he actually is and wants to leave just because he’s a penguins fan. What an absolute baby.

  25. Great look at it but Lindros and This are not even close to the same situation. Don't put sexual assault and this kid being a fan of Crosby in the same basket man. Not it. He doesn't wanna be a bad guy to his idol. That's just pathetic.

  26. He never play the single game in NHL it doesn’t matter what team and already Complaining and crying recipe for disaster. I hope I’m wrong though. God bless everyone.

  27. Whats the big deal? Flyers need a good defenseman. Let's hope this one doesnt get injured like the one they got for Nolan Patrick. It was all ok when Lindross ditched the Nordiques and came to them.
