In tonights Florida Panthers vs The Arizona Coyotes game, I saw a penalty called that I don’t think I have ever seen called on a goalie before. A high sticking penalty on a goalie? That’s gotta be a rare one but Karel Vejmelka got one as he clipped Nick Cousins. Matthew Tkachuk also scored his first hat trick as a Panther tonight and I cover this and all the highlights from this one in todays NHL hockey video recap!

Started watching around 03/04 as a young boy but I genuinely couldn't recall having seen a goalie get a high stick before. But damn, the amount of hate I have received for not knowing this happened all the time in the 80s and 90s is surprising to me. I wasn't even born yet… I didn't say YOU have never seen this before.
Search Youtube for: Lassilan törkeä huitominen! TPS – ÄSSÄT 18.11.2015
You might find it by simply searching "Teemu Lassila Josh Gratton" as well. There's some goalie high sticking for you. And he only got 12 game suspension for that.
In the Finnish league the very same thing happened, but the goalie stick did a bad cut to the players face and the goalie got 5mins and was ejected from the game
2 more words. Billy Smith. 🤬
Seriously? You're too young to have watched Billy Smith.
You clearly never heard of Ron Hextall or Billy Smith 🤔
Have you ever watched Ron Hextall! The man who revolutionized the goalie position!
I'm gonna disagree with others after watching the replay several times. It looks completely intentional to me. Maybe it wasn't, but it looks like it to me.
I think mist goalies get called for interference instead of high sticking most of the time
Idk which hockey you watch where high sticks usually are intentional.. almost no high sticks are intentional wtf. Just don't hit people in the face with your stick. Intentional or not
If you smack someone with a goalie paddle you should get 4 imo
You're too young to remember Billy Smith of the New York Islanders. One of his nicknames was Dr Chop!
Let’s skate directly at the goalies stick, surely it’ll be called right
Nothing new.. NHL is tame nowadays
Billy Smith with the knob
My Islanders had it happen as well against our gentle Billy Smith.
Dude was looking like a toll bridge
Attempted Decapitation… 😵💫
Any player including the goalie can be called high sticking if he really did it.
Wow
Goalies are piricks sometimes, love em, but c'mon
Lots of "never seens' this year
have seen this numerous times at all levels including the NHL . Careless use of the stick
if you think that these comments are hateful then you need to put your mommies laptop down and go have a nap
i dont think that ive seen a hockey site as stupid as this one before
now thats hateful
please dont cry
I saw Pekka Rinne get called for tripping as he was coming off the ice for a 6th skater. He collided with an opposing skater and his stick got caught in the blades. Only tripping call I've ever seen against a goalie
The other guy blocked it with his stick, so is that not high sticking too? Nothing happened to anybody so what is the problem?
Ron Hextall got quite a few high sticking calls
Today's goalies are too coddled. I agree with basic goalie protection, but they take it too far. I see goalies come 15-20 feet out in front of the net to handle the puck, basically becoming a 6th skater because they know no one can touch him. I recently even saw deliberately one step in front of an incoming winger who was attempting to skate behind the net to chase the puck and, you've got it, the winger was called for goalie interference. In the end, goalies are hockey players. Act like it.
Quite a delay in the player grabbing his face…. About 3 or 4 seconds….. None the less, goalies stick should be closer to himself once puck is no longer a Net Threat!!
You clearly never saw Ray Emery in his prime.
Just found and already my fav youtuber
Billy Smith
Goalies become over protected so they think they can get away with little things like that. Good call on the play as it definitely was intentional. If he left the stick around the body and not the head then he likely would not have been called.
this was 110% unintentional. as a goalie, after playing the puck I would almost always lift my stick like this and let gravity bring my stick back to position. Vejmelka proibably didnt even see him either
I once took a major high sticking penalty. I clothesline the guy as he was cutting in front of the net. got him on his back and knocked him out cold. I tried arguing with the ref that I never hit him with my stick, but he wouldn’t budge. The guy had been hacking me and interfering with me all game and I just figured I’d let them have it when I had the chance.
Your narration and analysis are great! Nicely done.
The ref looks like he’s doing the Macarena haha 😂
Nothing new
Billy Smith

100% intentional. should have been a five. All penalties on goaltenders should be 5 minutes served by the goaltender with the team forbidden from putting someone in as replacement. Open goal, 5 minute. If a position player freezes the puck in the paint with no goaltender, 5 minutes for them as well
Older folks have seen it called. Just watch highlight reels of goalie Billy Smith…..the dirtiest goalie to ever play the game (1970-1989). High sticking, spearing, slashing, tripping and butt ending were all part of his everyday arsenal. I still am amazed at just how vicious a player Smith was. You young folks should check out the slash that almost ended Wayne Gretzky's career in '83. Smith was just as aggressive off ice as well.
If your 6"3 why the h e double hockey sticks are they going down and charge theer attack poke check
2 more Billy Smith-one of the dirtiest all time NHL players!
See This way too often now. Why does Everyone carry their stick way above their waist and even their shoulders. In My 45+ Years of Playing I've Noticed this More in the past 15 Years or so. I'm Old School Two (2) Hands on YOUR Stick And Stick ON The Ice. YOU Are Responsible for YOUR Stick. Blade Down !! WHY…. Closer to the Ice. Even ON The Bench So You Don't Take Your Teamates Eye Out. ❤👍😊
I got that OG coyotes jersey from a kid love how they brought it back!
