Why do they have the ride or die attitude with Sammy. He's not mentally strong enough to play him. He's just another failure like Campbell and if they continue to play him it's a HUGE mistake.
The idea that it's all mental is silly. Obviously its part of it, but it seems Samsonov technically was degrading from the start of the season. I hope they addressed some of his issues:
(1) He was going down way too early, and related to this, he seemed to have no mobility and poor footwork. He was terribly slow to recover from bad positions.
(2) He was tracking the play terribly. I can't stand when goalies just stand their and get perplexed if there's any traffic and they can't see the puck. Good goalies are constantly moving their head to get a better view and anticipating the play.
Sammy is really good, goalies have bad stretches like any other player.
Why have the hildebeast ride the pine when he could be starting, much smarter to have Sammy ride the pine till woll is back
Shedding the yips can take months, it might be a bit premature bringing him back this soon.
Hildeby needs some playing time to develop and he's not getting it with the Leafs. Makes sense he needs playing time
Jones has been solid. Quietly helping the Leafs win, a couple of shutouts. The team seems to play better defensively with him in net as well. If Jones can win games vs Boston/Florida/Tampa then he’s the No. 1 going into the play offs
Hopefully they taught Sammy to get out of the paint and cut off the angles……otherwise he is doomed.

I think it's a process for them to get rid of Samson (trade?). No one wants him right now after the fiasco. If he shows some sort of recovery now, then they might be able to trade him.

Samsonov gets sent down, doesn't play a game in the AHL, has a couple of sessions with the AHL goalie coach, was out about 10 days, and now he's CURED ! GIMME A BREAK !!!!.
Are they afraid that Hildeby can rise to the occasion and show Leaf management to be the inept managers they in fact, are. THEN they'd have to pay him and screw up their Salary cap even worse, if that's possible! THEN what will they do with all the band-aids in the goalie department they currently have? Should have a goalie Flea Market next summer to thin out the ranks some. It could be a case where the Leafs are hoping Samsonov will put together a string of games with the Leafs playing better defensively, so they can move him and his contract at the deadline.

If Samsonov plays 10 games going forward, the Leafs will lose at least 7 of them. That's how you miss the playoffs.
