What's the point of trying to fight the guy after a hit? They do it all the time. Is it to prevent that from happening again? Never does. Is it "protecting your teammate"? Too late as he hobbles off the ice. There was a time when post incident beat downs occurred – but these twerps now just do it to say they did it. It's ineffective and boring.
