Flyers beat writer gives potential reason why Cutter wanted out during 10 month period

In his recent slew of interviews with Ducks media, he’s hinted at it being a culmination of events rather than a single thing. I still think what Friedman reported about the cap overage penalty being the incident that ultimately broke the trust there, but I think these are all valid reasons to seek a trade.

    > He wanted to turn pro after this final BC game on March 11. They fired Fletcher on March 10.

This timing makes me wonder if there were already conversations at some level about him turning pro after that game and then the Flyers pulled the offer/never produced the offer after Fletcher got canned.

Their staff didnt really handle this well and all their fans pulled out pitchforks so quickly to hate on basically a child making one of the biggest decision of his life. I hope they level out and dont rag on him his first game in Philly, but also i dont really care.

Pat is excited to have him and i think that will give him a ton of motivation. 0% worried about him not signing once he meets up with the guys, the whole org, and spends some time in socal. I’m excited to potentially see him this season, and all the new pieces were getting next year are going to make it a really exciting season. Might not be a great one yet but at least we’ll finally have most of our tanking profits finally on the roster and ready to start actually building.

Personally I think the whole story is getting blown way out of proportion. Cutter is just like any other worker, he saw the conditions of which his employment were shit, so he requested to be transferred and Philly said okay. It’s his right to 100% say “I dont want this” and request out. I’m glad he did and he’s here. Sucks we don’t have JD but honestly if Cutter is as good as people say, we’re gonna be getting close to a great team.

I’m tired of hearing about it. And really, Briere and Keith Jones really botched the hell out of all of this. They threw a 19 year old under the bus and exposed him to so much harassment and vitriol.

As a player that once chose to play for the Flyers over the Canadiens, Briere talked about choosing so to have some “anonymity.” Something that’s apparent he doesn’t care about as a GM.

The best and simplest announcement should’ve been the quietest one:

*”There was an opportunity to strengthen our team right now for a potential playoff run by acquiring a great player in Jamie Drysdale and in the future with a 2nd round pick. So we took that opportunity. We wish Gauthier all the best in the Ducks organization.”*

  6. The flyers fans still salty about it in replies to that tweet are out of control. Like I had no idea all this shit went down in Philadelphia last season, but seeing it all in list form is enough that I think the player wanting out makes total sense.

Seems like the remaining sentiment is that Cutter shouldn’t have iced out the new regime, but as far as I’ve seen he notified them over the summer he was no longer interested in signing with them after they failed to give him a contract after last ncaa season and that was that. Then philly management spent the last six months basically sending tons of ‘I miss you texts’ and trying to tell him things would be different moving forward, but it just doesn’t mean much when the orgs been a shitshow thusfar.

If my work was a mess and I told them I was quitting, and then they proceeded to drag out my remaining employment by telling me to stay because things were gonna be better rather than just letting me leave like I wanted, I’d be pretty disinclined to say anything to them while they drug the whole process out either.

I no longer feel like Cutter handled this badly, in fact I think he did the best with a bad situation and is now trying to take the higher road by basically not elaborating on all the reasons he no longer wanted to play for Philly.

My guess is that while those things may have been a factor, and certainly didn’t help, ultimately it’s more personal to him. Like how they treated and valued him as opposed to much else.

Keith Jones is a goofball and I can understand why that might be a reason he wanted out and also not wanting to disclose that information. “uhhh, I’ve listened to Keith Jones’ ‘hot takes’ as a color commentator for a few years and he is a total wiener so I can only imagine how terrible he is as a president” wouldn’t be a good look.

So many fans are calling Gauthier a whiner or entitled brat. But seriously, before this trade, it was pretty well known that the Flyers are a very poorly run franchise. You can see it – the front office is in disarray, the players don’t seem to want to stick around, and they are spinning their wheels on the ice (not good enough to compete, not bad enough to rebuild).

What the Flyers needed to do was get their act together enough for their top prospects to want to stay. They failed to do that.

It’s actually not that difficult to see. But hockey fans can be quite mean and they are often willing to attack the player when the real blame should be on the front office.

Flyers fan here: If that’s the case, why didn’t he meet with current Flyers personnel in the multiple times they tried to contact him?

I feel like a conversation with them to assuage his concerns and to convince him of their plan would’ve been worthwhile and something the flyers were trying to do?

His concern makes sense, but seemingly not communicating that with leadership when given opportunities to, is also shitty.

    Anyway
I wish him the best and hope he’s happy where he is now. It’s a shame Philadelphia and Anaheim are across the country, because this has the makings of a nice rivalry for the next 5-10 years.

Maybe a few cup finals matchups? Both of our fanbases would be stoked for that!

  11. I love how players are painted as divas but we’d want out of work place that was actively on fire too
