[Masters] Ilya Samsonov on being put on waivers amid tough start to the season: You’re sad. Yeah, you’re sad. But it’s probably nice signal for your brain and your body. Man, wake up and you need back on track and working as hard as you can.

Man, mental health issues can be a royal pain. I wish nothing but the best for Sammy.

    Sure they get paid well.

But man, very few people could have their failures so publicly known and still be normal… I see talking heads on media be like “You get the big bucks you know it is! You know this market you took the job!”

It’s such a callous perspective. It’s easy to criticize, which is ALL that Toronto media does when it comes to the Leafs.

Yes, it’s their responsibility and so on… but we are only human… it’d be nice if the media worked a little harder at recognizing that.

It’s funny cause knowing how he speaks and his general ‘meter’, it’s not:

    > ‘You’re sad. Yeah, you’re sad’.

    but rather:

    > ‘You’re said, yeah (you know)? You’re said, but it’s….’

Not relevant in any way, but a minor distinction that changes the feeling of the sentence a bit.

He’s been awful but can’t help but root for the guy to figure it out.

Stop being so hard on yourself Sammy, that’s like half the problem

I really like Ilya. He’s got a great personality, seems like a normal and humble guy. I genuinely wonder if he is dealing with an issue that either he doesn’t realize he has or that he is simply not disclosing.

In the last two games he played, there were a number of issues. His positioning was not fabulous, and his sliding around so much didn’t help that. But he also missed four easy glove-side shots that were taken out of the danger zone and with minimal or no screen. Almost as though his vision or reflexes are suffering somehow.

I can’t remember the last time I saw a goalie make that flub multiple times in the same game, and then do that in back-to-back starts.

Wasn’t he put on waivers already, last week I believe?

I’m happy for Hildeby making big league pay for a couple weeks, even if he didn’t get in a game.

Now hopefully Sammy knows where his net is.
