Patrick Johnston on Guentzel as a trade target for the Canucks & the cost, signing Perry or Kessel

The Province’s Patrick Johnston shares his thoughts on what a Jake Guentzel trade would look like for the #Canucks, and other trades like it, as the Canucks continue to roll and continue to lean on the Lotto line. Also, is Corey Perry a possibility? What about Phil Kessel, who Rick Tocchet, Jim Rutherford and Patrik Allvin know from their time in Pittsburgh. #VancouverCanucks #NHL #Hockey

  1. Guentzel would be such an expensive add, and I think the 2 swede prospects are viewed too highly (for their potential ELC value during the OEL buyouy) by management to include them in a trade.

  2. so, thinking about the nickname that everyones been looking for for the Blueger/Garland/Joshua line… if the LOTTO line is reunited for the rest of the season… does that make the 3rd line the EXTRA? lmao

  3. All these options are to high donā€™t trade for Guentzel. Let internal players grow together

  4. 1. Crosby all day long over Micky D. (2) They should sign Perry now and maybe get another big D. ie. Seely or Peeke for depth.

  5. Kuzmenko, Hoglander and a 1st for Guentzel is too steep imo. I think that takes us from a 4 line team to a 3 line team.

If Lekkerimaki was ready, then I'd consider it more. If this was the off-season, I'd consider it more. But for now. I think that's too much to give up for 1 winger.

  6. When you look at the Canucks line combos right now, it is truly incredible that they are where they are in the standings.

Lotto line is elite for sure, but after that it's essentially 3 third lines. It's kind of like Vegas' original team where they essentially had 4 second lines. I know the Canucks have defied expectations all season, but I don't think the roster as it currently stands could win a cup.

  7. Relentless precision is a great term, bravo Patrick. And in no world (or at least not this one) is McDavid over Crosby yo.

  8. They're over performing, in the regular season. Tell me, how is it they win a cup this year? Three months ago, people were hoping for playoffs.

Don't trade any future pieces for now. We need those pieces to absorb the OEL buyout penalty, stay relevant. Two years from now, we could have as key pieces….

    Hogs
    Bains
    Willander
    Raty
    Lekkerimaki
