HUGE TRADE! NJ Devils TRADE Kyle Palmieri and Travis Zajac To The New York Islanders!

The New Jersey Devils TRADED Kyle Palmieri and Travis Zajac to the New York Islanders days before the NHL Trade Deadline ends. The NJ Devils gets 2 draft picks, AJ Greer and Mason Jobst in return for Palmieri and Zajac.
There are other players on the Devils that may be Traded as the NHL Trade Deadline approaches which is April 12. Other players being linked to trades I discuss are Miles Wood, Sami Vatanen, Dmitry Kulikov, Will Butcher, and Ryan Murray.

  1. its all about the draft pick. the 2 guys devils got probably wont make the big club.
    LGD

  2. getting a first for 2 impending UFAs if fine. Zajac probably comes back and retires as a devil, in the meantime we clear space to evaluate talent

  3. Start of a new era. Sad to see those veterans go but I'm excited for the future. Our young guys have so much to look forward to. LGD!!

  4. palmieri gets to go to a good team, and the return for the devils is okay. (despite the retention). hopefully the future pick pays off, and the rebuild can truly come to fruition.

  5. I don't mind Palmieri because it sounded like we weren't resigning him but Zajac pisses me off. He was a career devil and he was just a throw in in this trade

  6. The 1rst round is very deep this draft , Devils are getting 2 good prospects in the 1rst round this year to go with they already got.

  7. as an islanders fan I love it, Im nervous as the fact we have traded 2 first picks the last two years, as I view our core as not old but not young. The condition of the 4th is if the isles make it to cup final. I am very excited to see these two play! ALso am very curious to see if lou makes another move, seeing both salaries retained raises my eyebrows a little as we have those 2nd round picks and bellows still as bait!

  8. First trade Tom Fitzgerald has made as GM that I think he did very poorly on. Retaining 50% of both players contracts should have gotten a 1st rd pick & Kieffer Bellows in return. This makes the Islanders extremely deep, & with Bellows name already in the trade proposal before Zajacs name was included I don't understand how they settled on 2 no name prospects & a conditional 4th rd pick. Take notes cause Lou took ya Tom. Would have been an even trade if Zajac's contract was the only one to be 50% retained as he makes even more than Palms. If I'm Fitzgerald I'm telling Lou the only way I retain 50% on both contracts is for Bellows & a 1st. Disappointed to say the least.

  9. This entire trade was about the 1st round pick. Originally it was rumored Palms would get traded for a 2nd round pick and maybe a prospect. Could it have been better? Sure thing, but there were no long term plans for either of these players. Glad they were able to get something. These are also 100% rentals, the Islanders don't have the cap space to retain either of them after the season is over. Now call up Foote and get this kid some ice time!!!

  10. Hi- I look to you for insights about Devils. I too believe that Lou won the deal by a wide margin. And Devils should have asked for lot more, especially because Devils are retaining half salaries. Devils Lost big time.
Thanks for this video. Best wishes

  11. Something else to consider here… Palms was likely to leave anyway, but there's probably more to Zajac that lead to him being added to the deal. With the expansion draft coming up, Zajac could have easily been exposed to the draft (assuming he signed an extension deal), or if he was protected it could have meant exposing a younger guy that NJ doesn't want to lose. I would think that if he was exposed, Seattle would have snagged him quick as he would have likely been the best available guy from NJ given his veteran status and reliability. With Zajac becoming a UFA, NYI would have to find cap space to re-sign him after this season, and I don't see him being a player they are looking at as anything beyond a pure rental to win the Cup NOW. So rather than risk signing him to a good extension deal and losing him to the expansion, NJ adds him to this trade and get a 1st rd pick and a 4th for next year that could get upgraded. And when all is said and done, NJ could very well try to sign him again as a UFA if he fits into the team's future plans.

  12. I really hate having to root for the Islanders, but I'd really like to see these guys and Greene win a cuo.

  13. The sting is real, but I’m happy for Palms and Trav to reunite with Andy and Lou, hopefully the playoffs go well.

  14. Only matters if we hit on these first round picks. I’ll say it’s an L if we don’t. Cause palms is still youngish and very serviceable. Zajac could’ve stayed for leadership reasons. I’ll take it but still

Btw I’d rather have merk than Mango

  15. This was a clear message to the organization and fanbase that Nico and Jack are the leaders of this team. Scary stuff when you realize they’re 19 and 22 smh

  16. It sounds like Zajac only wanted to go to the isles and keep his family close to home. That makes sense and good on Fitzgerald for taking care of the legend zajac. Who knows, maybe palmeri will come back next year.

  17. I read that the condition is if NYI make the finals this year it turns to a third Rd pick, isles get to choose the year tho, 2022 or 2023.

Gutted to lose Zajac but I wanna see him succeed man.

  18. Tom could have gotten more! Lou really wanted Travis. Tom looks weak here. Yes shocking and sad. Maybe AJ can make the team?

  19. This was pretty much a 1st rd pick for Palms. And a conditional 4th rd pick in 2022 for Zajac (it becomes a 3rd rd in 2022 or 2023 if the Islanders make the cup finals this year, islanders choose the which year). Retaining 50% of both salaries was necessary because of the islanders cap situation. The other 2 players like you said are mainly for the AHL although they could give Greer a shot this year with some games to see what he has. Overall Fitz did what he had to do and it may not be his last move either.
