What's so strange about Briere saying they want to protect him so they kept it quiet? It helps nobody in the situation to let word get out. A 19 year old kid doesn't need the media slagging him as a prima donna 2 years before he ever sets foot in an NHL rink and Briere certainly didn't want to depreciate the asset by broadcasting he wants out. You are right to pick up on the timeline as that seems fairly crucial to understanding what happened. It sounds like his stated view changed when Chuck Fletcher was still GM, and Briere Assistant. I did not change when Briere moved up. I have since read it reported that Gauthier team says its nothing to do with Torts, and it is a private family matter.
A couple seasons ago I saw Seattle give beniers 10 games to burn a year off his ELC for no logical reason and I knew this was going to start happening. Once 1 guy does it they all think they're worthy of getting a free year off their ELC to make millions more and quicker. It's the Era of entitlement.
Of course Philly is upset. They forget the situation when Eric Lindros refused to play for the Nordiques and the Flyers ended up with him thanks to an arbitrator’s decision. I thought it outrageous then. I was transferred to Philly by my employer. We had tickets to all of the major sports. I had access to use those tickets and for about 4 years I put up with the “Philly faithful” in all venues.
Although I have not seen a single quote from Gauthier regarding not wanting to play in Philadelphia, as a fan of all of the major league sports….. I can’t blame him!

I’m just concerned that the Flyers set a precedent of letting draftees decide they want to move ,or not get drafted before they ever play a game in the NHL…The league has to step in and stop this before every young player does the same..Flyers have a horrible track record on high picks(Patrick) and hopefully Michkov doesn’t decide not to come over..Gauthier and Michkov would’ve made a great line.Reports are saying they knew why he didn’t want to come here…I hope the old ex Flyers management team didn’t mess up again..

Gauthier wanted nothing to do with a franchise that continually tries the same formula over and over and over again: Fire the ex-Flyers running the show, then bring in a new set of ex-Flyers to take over, Rinse and repeat again and again. Been doing the same thing for decades. Flyers will never win another Cup until they wake up and bring in management from winning franchises. In other words, no more rewarding their old "good soldiers" with patronage jobs and instead bringing in some new ideas and a whole new philosophy. Not only would they help themselves but hiring people away from the competition will hurt their rivals at the same time.
