  1. Jon – I don't have heartburn sending Othmann down. Given our habit of rushing guys to the NHL with mixed results, I'd rather see the Rangers err on the side of caution. That said, I do agree that his deployment, after the Chicago game, was a bit odd given the limited ice time he saw (and, like you, I didn't see anything egregious in his play that would suggest he deserved to have his ice-time cut).

Still, it's good for him to get his feet wet, practice with the team, etc. Who knows, perhaps if there are injury challenges moving forward, this look-see will better position him and the team for a call up later in the season if needed. Let's see him tear it up in Hartford and we'll go from there.

  2. With respect to Leschyshyn, it's a bit odd, I agree. Prior trials in the NHL with the Rangers have shown little to nothing to offer from JL. My guess, and I'm speculating, is that they are taking the opportunity, with Chytil and Kakko out, to get an NHL look at all of the potential fill ins (should there be further injuries as the season progresses) so that, if late season call ups are needed, they've taken a look at all of them and can make a more informed decision about who are the best candidates for call up. Like you, I'm surprised they didn't call up Belzile. That's a bit odd, but maybe it's a situational thing.

I'm really looking forward to seeing Cuylle on the top line if it pans out. I've been eager to see that for a while. I am very bullish on Cuylle. He's been super and I think, if paired with more skilled players, has far more offensive upside than many are giving him credit for. As well, perhaps he will help improve that line defensively since our friend Chris Kreider seems to make a habit of losing board battles in the defensive zone and not hustling back the way, given CK's speed, he should be on the back check. Never mind that Kreider is like Ferdinand the Bull. Strong and fast as anyone in the league, but would rather sit quietly under a cork tree smelling the flowers than actually physically engage with someone (I'm not talking fighting…. just finish checks consistently). He continues to be the son you love, but also want to strangle.

  3. I've mentioned I'm superstitious before. That being said. I would be worried about the president's trophy curse if the Rangers finished at #1. I don't exactly enjoy watching them lose though

  4. I would trade wheeler for a Zamboni driver but of course no team would take him. I am not trying to be cruel it's just that we knew after a month the guy could no longer skate and whatever speed he once had was long gone so what do they do? Hey let's put this guy who can no longer play put on our top line so he can slow them down and frustrate the hell out of everyone. I didn't get it then and I don't get it now other than Wheeler must have some compromising photos of Dolan or something because his being on this team makes absolutely no sense. At best he would be a 3rd liner in Hartford, maybe. Cmon Jon Cooled off? C'mon buddy we all have seen it. The guy simply stands around and can't wait to get back to the bench a complete waste of a roster spot.

  5. If we could only package Kreider's physical strength on the powerplay with his legs/hustle on the penalty kill into his 5-on5 play. His current even strength skill is to coast around and lose every board battle

  6. They should have never brought him up only to give him 7+ minutes and skip putting him out there in his first period of his second game. The rangers are starting to show signs of mismanagement and why lavy doesn’t last long as a coach on many teams especially lately. Hopefully things turn around but it’s starting to look ugly.
