The Oilers Signing Draisaitl For Two-Three Years MAKES SENSE

Does a short-term deal make sense for Leon Draisaitl and the Edmonton Oilers?! – Tyler Yaremchuk believes so.

  1. Can we talk about how nasty Olivier Rodrigue is like man I know old guys love pickaxes because he plays that style of hockey but we need to give this kid a chance if we can get points in 3 of our next 4 I think Rodrigue should get the nod against the Blackhawks on Jan 25

  2. Players sign short deals when they wanna make money. Players sign long deals when they want to stick around.

  3. Signing makes most sense when he is getting some real 2nd line wingers. Currently he plays with 3rd liners who are labeled as 2nd line wingers.
I don't think that he is looking for max money. That's not in his DNA.

  4. This take is moronic. The NHL is a combat sport and Drai takes a huge beating. No chance a player takes a shorter term betting they'll be healthy in 3-4 years. A bridge deal for a younger player, maybe. But a star who could command 13m. Nah. He's taking the term.

  5. To be honest, I think Leon is a magnificent player, but a short term deal might be better if he wont take a discount on a lomger deal. He is the type of player that won't age well because of the way he plays, and his footspeed.

  6. I think Leon is not the typ of player which only looks like for money. More important is the atmosphere in a team and the concept of the hole campaign. And also his friendship to Connor counts… For me Leon is the beste overall player in the league and he will sign the highest prayed contract equal whether the contract is short and or long termed. But if a year later Connor signs a extension, his contract is will be the most worth in the league. Anyway, we will see

  7. Leon should talk with players like Voracek,Weber , Savard, Klefbom, and many others who had signed long-term and are being paid well past their career-ending injury

  8. Absolutely wrong. It would be best for the player AND the team for Leon to sign a max deal instead.
    1) If he signs an 8-year deal, he can get approx $100 Million (or a bit less) for his prime years and the contract ends when he is 37. When it kicks in, Connor Brown's stupid bonus money will, thank god, be off the books, and the cap is up so the Team can afford it. In the last 2 years of the contract, his performance may drop off a bit, but his legacy is intact. He can sign some short-term deals to end off his career either in Edmonton, or elsewhere, but like Kopitar, he will never be a drag on the team or the eyre of fans' complaints.
    2) If he signs another 3-year bridge deal, then signs an 8-year deal at the age of 32, then there is both the risk, that he doesn't get max dollars for the 2nd contract (if he has already started on a downtrend beginning with the current off-peak season or if he gets injured again), AND the risk that the 8-year deal starting at 32 and ending at 40 for top dollars might end up being a boat anchor for the team in the last 4 or 5 seasons, and his legacy is tainted like how Lucic's contract ended in Edmonton.
Any agent advising his client to sign a 3-year $35 million contract at the age of 29, when an 8-year $100 million is on the table should be run out of the industry.

  9. Leon has already made magnitudes more money than many NHL players make over their entire careers. The Oilers will still want to sign him into his older years. But security for a younger guy who's probably going to be starting a family soon is probably more important to him.

  10. Nope he’s likely getting an 8 year deal here. Both and re signing imo, they like the org and playing on the same team.
