I don’t love Zegras, but if Anaheim was crazy enough to offer that, I would do it in a second. Especially if Schenn and a prospect is the asking price. Zegras is a highlight reel machine, but he has been injured this year and isn’t tracking for good stats this year. That being said, he has more upside than anyone else in our pipeline and center is our weaknest position in the pipeline.

That would be an insane offer by the Ducks.
I’d do it for Schenn and a 2nd. We have a log jam on D and a 2nd for Z is nothing when you take into account his potential to thrive in Brunette’s system.
Edit: not sure why I thought the proposed deal was Schenn and a 2nd. For me it depends on the prospect but I’d still do it as long as it wasn’t any of our 1st rounders from this years draft or Kemmel
In a fucking heartbeat.
Throw in Barrie for Mintyukov, and it’s a deal 🤣
The headline makes it sound like Anaheim is having a fire sale on their younger players. But really the only reason this trade happened was because Gauthier wanted out of Philly. They got a legit prospect in Cutter. he’s a 5th overall who has been living up to his potential so far. They basically just pushed the rebuild back by 3 years and probably got better as a result.
Anaheim isn’t going to want a washed up cap dump player in Schenn plus a lower level prospect for Zegras. Schenn would do absolutely nothing for the team outside of keep them above the cap floor.
It would have to be an equal trade and no Preds fan would want to give up whatever it would take. Would have to be someone like Molendyk.
If they would take our first and Schenn I’d do it in a heartbeat.
If the Preds are really trying to win a cup with Josi and ROR, we don’t have 3 years to be a bubble playoff team. We need to shit or get off the pot. Zegras would compete as 3C and could hopefully push to 2C and allow Novak to move to wing with Evangelista. It would give us scoring depth that we are really lacking.
I don’t want Zegras but I’d be cool with this
Bro what? No planet would Zegras be had for Luke fucking Schenn and a prospect. It would be top/good prospect + 1st min
Imagine zegras and filip pulling off the Michigan both in one night
I looked at Zegras pretty good a while back.
Negatives:
1. This guy is the poster boy for why you don’t want to tank and just give talented young players NHL ice time to learn with no or little accountability on a bad team. He has been brought along the opposite way the Preds want to go with their prospects.
2. He already makes a lot of money. More than ROR. Nash has some money to spend. Is this the best way to spend it? You can get something good for that (around) $6 mil.
3. Anaheim is in similar shape as Nashville. They need him. If they want to give up on him, why do you want to take him at a premium price?
4. Zegras is a 60-65 point guy and some of it comes on the PP. The problem is, when he is out there, the other team produces offense at all-star levels. He is way upside down in +/-, in the 20s for a full season the two previous years and at the same pace this year.
That’s not the worst thing in the world but he is a guy you have to really protect/shelter.
He’s not small but he’s not the big, protypical C teams are looking for. It would be a disappointment to a degree if he ends up being a winger.
Pros:
1. Talent-wise, he’s at the top. You’re probably not going to be able to draft a better pure talent.
2. The team has a lot of good prospects. None besides Svechkov are Centers. They also have NHL d-men to move. Move something you have a lot of for something you don’t have.
3. The Cody Glass experiment looks like it is on the way out and there is nothing else obvious to try next.
I would do this deal, depending on who the prospect is, but it isn’t anything I would be all that excited about. You would be taking a chance.
Zegras could maybe benefit from being in a locker room with 90 and 27 to get his head out of his ass, so I can see merit in bringing him here.
Still you have consider what talent you are sending the other way because Schenn and a scrub isn’t getting this deal done.
