The Blues Are Scoring Power Play Goals!!!!| St. Louis & Boston Bruins Postgame Show

The blues forced a point out of one of the best teams in the NHL so I can’t be that upset but at the same time the refs also didn’t do a great job last night and I’m going to talk about what went wrong here un locked on Blues you’re

Locked on Blues your daily podcast on the St Louis Blues part of the locked on podcast Network your team every day Hello and welcome back to lockdown Blues I am your host of locked on Blues Haley Taylor Simon talking to all things about our St Louis Blues here a part of the locked on podcast Network last night the blues fell to the Bruins in overtime and I’m going to talk about what went right

What what wrong in the game Kevin Hayes he had a great game and he’s somebody worth talking about and of course are we feeling in blue so a lot to dive into in today’s episode before I get into anything I want to let you know that today’s episode is brought to you by

Sleeper download the sleeper app and use promo code locked on NHL to get up to $100 match on your first deposit terms and conditions apply see sleepers terms of use for details so who doesn’t like some Saturday night hockey there was football on and hockey on so obviously I was very content

And I would have been a little bit more content if the blues were able to get two points out of the Boston Bruin um yeah a 4-3 overtime loss doesn’t really make me that happy just because the blues I feel like scored a good amount of goals in this game and to

Lose like that obviously just sucks um yeah so let’s go talk about the game last night and for the Bruins they had a lot of good things as their Captain Brad marshand was able to get two goals and I believe he got over 900 points in last

Night’s game for the blues on the other hand I’m just going to break it all down then we’ll get into it so about five minutes in marshan scores for the Boston Bruins and then Kevin Hayes responds with a nice goal not even a minute later assisted by Captain and Ley there was

Another goal that Kevin haes had unfortunately the incompetent refs caught it off sides even though I would like to disagree and in the second period Charlie Mcavoy was able to score for the Bruins giving them a 2-1 lead then our boy Jake Neighbors on the power

Play was able to score his 13th goal this season giving the blues a 2-2 tie going into the third period by the way that goal was assisted by Jordan cyu and Robert Thomas in the third period Brad Martian scored a power play goal and then who else oh yeah sunqu it’s always

Sunny with Oscar son Quest because he was able to score the blues the second power play goal of the game assisted by SC perunovich and Braden Shen unfortunately in overtime the blue I mean the blues fell to the Bruins I keep on getting them mixed up and that was scored by um

Charlie mavo so two goals for Maran two goals for aoy but I do have to say the blues did two Power Play Goals so for St Louis that is something that is huge doesn’t usually happen often when we get a power play goal but the power play has

Been a lot better ever since Drew banister said he was going to kind of redo them and it’s been working in our favor which means we moved up guys we are the 30th worst Power power play team in the NHL we went from being 32nd to 30th um so

Below us are the Chicago Blackhawks and the Philadelphia Flyers but we now have a 13.33% on the power play so last night listen we may not have moved up in the rankings we may not have moved up in a lot of things but we did move up on how

We do in the power play so for that that is a huge accomplishment within it self obviously that’s not riveting news to where I’m like oh yeah this is really good it’s not we still suck on the power play as a season now if you look at the

Past couple games you could argue that we’re one of the best power play teams in the NHL unfortunately that’s not how it works and that’s a stat that nobody would even accept or have um legitimately out there but for all jokes and purposes I’m just going to say that if

You count the the past couple games we are the best power play team in the NHL and you can argue with me on that one right okay so last night’s game I have to say I did not expect the blues to win the Bruins happened to be a phenomenal hockey

Organization this season they have just been killing it and all aspects and uh they still leave the Atlantic division with 59 points before beating us last night they were coming off of a 4 game losing streak I mean not four game three game losing sh would have been four games if we

Won I have to say I was quite pleasantly surprised with how we played against them I think the Bruins are everything that we’re not they’re good on the power play they’re good at creating space offensively they’re very good with basically everything everything that they do as a team I was a little

Surprised about the fact that we were able to really hold on as long as we did but I think forcing that extra I mean going to over OT and getting that point in it is beneficial because while we did lose the game we got a point and at this

Point what did I always say on this podcast every Point counts especially when we’re nearing we’re past the mid point of the season now if we want to continue to think about the playoffs right we’re going to need to get in and the NHL they put up this graphic caser

The playoffs began today who would be in and we’re obviously not in so yes do I hate the fact that we lost absolutely but do I think getting that extra point helps us sure I mean we have 44 points right now we’re fifth in the the Central and right below us is the

Coyotes with 44 points as well we’re actually completely even we both have 21 wins 18 losses and two overtime losses accumulating for 44 points so between the both of us we’re basically the same team which is kind of crazy I feel like there’s not a lot of stats like that

Where teams are identical with how they are in standings at the Midway point of the season but we got some work to do above us is Nashville with 49 points and above Nashville is Dallas with 55 then you have Colorado with 59 and then Winnipeg with 60 so things are not

Looking too good for us right now if you were to place us and this is another thing in any division in the NHL Pacific Metro Atlantic we would be in the same position because right now with our 44 points we would be in fifth place in every division

So there’s some work that needs to be done but again do not forget St Louis in that season that 2018 2019 season we were dead last when it was January and we ended up winning the cup so I don’t want you to lose all of your hope because it is possible for

Us to be successful it’s just a question of will this team Step Up will any trades happen near the trade deadline and I think that’s a question that we’re going to have to really put on Doug Armstrong is he going to better this team or are we just going to focus on

The draft either way I’m fine with both I think there’s pros and cons to everything I think if we focus on the draft then I’m not saying purposely lose by any means but I could understand the benefit in that if we focus on becoming a successful Club in the second half of

The season I want to know a couple of things who will be treated when will be when will they be treated and what will we get in returned I would like if possible so a two-way defenseman I think that would be the most beneficial thing

Right now but at the same time we need to score so we need to get more goal scorers a lot of things can be done between now and then I just hope that Doug Armstrong doesn’t mess this up like he’s done with a lot of things in the

Past but he’s also done a lot of good things so my boy dou a and I we may not see eye to eye we usually don’t see eye to eye but on this I need him to see eye to eye with me because I want to be a winning hockey

Organization now not in the future but now okay you know what’s also getting me winning all the time it’s sleeper it’s almost the halfway point this season and blues fans listen right now we’re fifth in the central there is possibility for us to continue to grow regardless of

Where we are in the current standings I want to remind you that you could win big by playing daily fantasy hockey on sleeper the official daily fantasy app of the lockdown NHL Network sleeper is are number one choice for daily fantasy sports and especially daily fantasy hockey because with sleeper you can win

Game last night I’ve talked about Kevin Hayes quite a bit on this podcast recently and last night I saw the Kevin Hayes that used to be a newerk ranger because when he was on the Rangers he was argumentatively in his peak of his career right he was fast last night

Making good plays having good shot attempts and I have to say he was robbed to that second goal but I was really proud of Hay’s performance last night I think it’s important to recognize when a player does have a good game I think sometimes we can be a little bit

Critical I can be critical I know I can be critical so I want to give a big shout out to Kevin Hayes for really stepping up in a week where his name was thrown around like crazy and a lot of things probably transpired in his personal life maybe

Feeling emotions that were not the best there’s a lot of things that go on in people’s personal life so that you have to take into account but he did not let that stop him on the ice last night he is a Boston native Kevin Hayes so it’s always fun

When you watch a guy going against their Hometown team I’m not too sure if Kevin Hayes was ever a Bruins fan I mean I bet he was growing up because again you’re growing up in Boston Hometown home City probably was a Bruins fan so maybe that

Had a little bit to do with his game last night but overall I thought he played really good hockey he’s been stepping up though and this has nothing to do with any of the drama but just in general and observation I even had and I always take notes when I watch the games

Is that Kevin Hayes is stepping up tremendously and sometimes you know you’re going to watch players digress sometimes you’re going to watch them improve it just depends but Kevin Hayes is one of those players where it truly looks like he has been progressing as as of lately and that’s impressive I

Think that my if I were to give him like a grade for how I think he’s played this season I’m GNA give him a c which is just average because he hasn’t done anything that’s so spectacular but he hasn’t done anything that’s awful he’s just kind of a presence on the ice I

Don’t know if that makes any sense to you maybe that makes more sense to me than anything but he’s a body on the ice he is more beneficial than he is detrimental but I would like to see more out of him so hopefully this sparked some confidence within he and made him

Realize hey you can still play the game quite well you just got to make those plays you got to just put that effort in and it will happen but the one thing with Kevin Hayes is sometimes when he takes chances it works out in his favor

And that’s so that he needs to do more often he needs to take those chances maybe it’s a little risky okay some of the plays that he makes some of the positioning where he’s at but last night it worked so heyes did well Jake neighbors I was happy for him because he

Was on the hot streak and then it kind of just stopped so I’m always happy when I see Jake neighbor scoring and making good plays and of course Oscar Sunquest as always comes in clutch when we need him the most I would like to see more

Out of Sunny sometimes I feel like he kind of hides a little bit and you fure out that he’s even playing but last night overall he had a good game a lot of our guys had a good game and listen the Bruins are the best team in the

Atlantic they obviously have more skill than we do but you can’t it’s hard but you really can compare us to Boston and if you’re going to compare us to Boston I have a couple questions for you why why would you compare us to Boston in

Any single way last night was not one of those games to compare us to the Bruins Bennington was in net last night and you know he had 35 um shots on him four went in so I mean it wasn’t the worst but San was a net for the Bruins and same kind of

Thing both good goalies but are going to go in and bner comes in clutch playing better this season a little less of a hotthead but overall I thought he did fine so I’m not going to rip him we got a point up against the best team in the

NHL on the east at least the best of the East well besides the we be well no we beat the Rangers so in reality we’re really not that bad of a hockey team if we’re beating all these good teams all right I want to let you know about something

That you cannot live without that’s the Jace case I know we come to sports to escape from some of the crazy realities of real life but can we just talk for a minute about preparing for real life according to the FDA pharmacies are running out of antibiotics like a

Moxilin right now in the middle of the worst flu season in over a decade this is scary I can’t imagine a more helpless feeling than myself not being able to get access to any of these life-saving medications due to a supply chain issue thankfully I will be okay because

I have Jace medical the jcece case is a pack of five different antibiotics that treat a long list of bacterial illnesses including UT respiratory infections sinuses skin infections among others this stuff could happen to any of us visit JM medical.com and complete your physician encounter and it will be it

Will be reviewed by a board certified physician and your medications will be dispensed by a licensed pharmacy at a fraction of the regular cost it’s never been more important to be prepared then today go to JM medical.com and use offer code locked on to get $20 off your

Order are we feeling blue I am feeling good despite the fact that they lost an OT last night when they could have won the game um I’m feeling good I feel like this is a team where you got to be a little bit more optimistic a little bit more

Positive and that’s how it’s going to be I really do enjoy when the Blues win but I also enjoy when they put up a good fight and last night they put up a heck of a fight against the Boston Bruins they also beat those New York Rangers and whenever you

Beat a team like the Rangers who are argumentatively one of the best teams in the NHL on the East besides the ruins you’re going to be happy so I’m happy about that I guess the only negative that you could really say is the fact that we had a loss to the

Panthers where Keith kachu son got a hattick so like that kind of sucks but other than that I feel like this was a successful week for the blues the blues they’re getting better on the power play that is a positive and sure we haven’t picked up any new

Players we’re sending guys back and forth between Springfield and here fun fact I tell you I think I’m going to see the te- birds um they’re coming to Pennsylvania actually on the 24th in Hershey so I think I might make the drive and uh go see them so I can see

Guys like a Tyler Tucker because he is there now I mean subin and net seems so much fun but no I seriously am excited to see my boy Zach Dean and there’s so many of the guys down there that I’m huge fans of so I’m excited to finally

See them play live it is hard for where I live because there’s not that many like locations to get to that are easy and when the blues come up here in Pennsylvania I’m going to see them against Philadelphia I’m going to try to see them in Long Island against the

Islanders even though that’s like a two and a half-hour drive one way and I’m not going to see them in New Jersey or New York because I’m going to Florida that week to see a couple family members but I’m excited to finally see my Blues in person but until then I was looking

At flights oh this is my one rant by the way why are flights to get to St Louis from Pennsylvania over $600 like I have been out obviously to St Louis before but I’ve left from West Virginia cuz I used to live out in West Virginia

And it was half the cost why is it because Pennsylvania on map is closer to St Louis than West Virginia was from where I used to be but yet it’s more expensive that doesn’t make sense to me if anybody has an explanation as to why this is please let me know because I

Cannot process the fact that if I want to go out to see my BLU at Enterprise living where I do now it’s more expensive than where I used to live which was even further away it makes no sense at all but I cannot wait to wear all my Blues apparel maybe I’ll be

Credential actually so I can talk to the players and get some audio for the podcast but I’m just excited to finally have a little piece of my heart coming to where I live and I can see all of my favorite people which are Blues fans all

Right I will talk to you in tomorrow’s episode let’s go Blues

  1. Blues got screwed I was there like 30 feet away it sucked. Also bruins suck. it always seems like Boston gets away with cheating just like half there super bowl wins its crazy

  2. I think that we have done extremely well against these good teams. Yeah we lost (and yes the refs weren’t the best yesterday) we still kept ourselves in it to get a point. The problem is we need to play on the same level when we face bad teams. No team is an easy 2 points. We are competing with at least 4 other teams for the last wild card spot. Every point is crucial!
