That roster was pretty solid. The roster from Bednars first year was the real low point

I was in attendance when they lost 10-2 in Montreal in 2016. I unfortunately remember.

Was that the NHL lockout year where they played 48 games? I went to an Avs/Blackhawks that year at Ball Arena (Pepsi Center) and it seemed like my Dad and I were the only Avs fans in our entire section. The Blackhawks were off to one of the best starts in NHL history and that Avs team SMOKED the Hawks 6-2 to hand them their first regulation loss of the season. Simpler times, but a lot more losing back then.

I know a lot of people point to the 48p season as the all time low but I honestly think this season may have been even worse in context.
First off this was after yet another fucking half a season lost due to a lockout. So apathy was high for a lot people already. But since it was a very compressed 48 game season, I think some us had the logic of “Well the younger teams will benefit!”
Instead we had some absolutely massive regression from key guys that made you doubt if they were really core pieces or not. Joe Sacco was still our head coach and there were rumors he might stay on for another season.
Our GM was Greg Sherman, a fucking bean counter if you’ve ever seen one.. I think at that point we actually had a PART TIME goaltending coach if you can believe that. It just felt like there was no future and that honestly nobody cared.
I honestly was gonna stop following the team if they kept Sacco on. Fortunately they didn’t, Roy came in, Sakic came in and actually brought some level of excitement to the team for the first time in what felt like a decade.

The crazy thing for me here is that with Landy out and EJ now in Buffalo, there isn’t a single player from this group on the current lineup. Obviously it’s a good thing we’re now so much better but for a 10ish year difference it kinda blows mind

Yeah 2012-2013 I went to my first hockey game ever. For $33 I bought two tickets and drove from Laramie with a buddy.
We were sitting 2nd row, middle lower bowl. After 10 minutes into the first period it was clear that the people with glass seats in front of us weren’t showing up. Sat there the rest of the game and had a blast.
We were playing the Stars and at the time I think we were the 2 worst teams in hockey.

Getting rid of the douch was a masterstroke by Sakic, especially after how mad the fan base was that we still had him. Now it looks like the trade of the century for him.

Tbh as a child I lost interest in the Avs after the lockout. Took a minute but thank you Nate Dogg, Cale, etc. for reigniting my hockey interest
