What Nick is describing here is a concept than men in western societies have lost in general. When I was a kid, I got in quite a few fights. Several of those were against some of my best friends. Why? Well someone crossed a line somewhere and there was a response to say "You're going to have consequences for that decision." It wasn't that we were trying to truly hurt each other or anything, but a message needed to be sent that we weren't going to stand for the situation as it was. The presence of this concept is something I truly love about hockey.
