Slight correction on O’Reilly, he was Top-5 in Selke voting in 2021 and 2022, *not* 2023.

Edit: I’m not advocating that the Canucks do any of these trades. I wanted to do an exercise to determine the value of these players based on their closest comparables across many factors (age, size, weight, goals, points, cap hit, etc.). The value cards I made didn’t have space for all the information to be reflected, so I boiled it down to the ones most important (also I didn’t want to spend another 30 minutes per card copying all the other comparable players’ data lmao). Some I even disagree with as a reasonable cost to pay (looking at you, Greenway) but based on the data I collected, these appear to be the cost GMs are willing to pay.

The comps for Guenzel are not good. Horvat and O’Reilly are closer comps. You’re going to get a better ideal of value from comparable contract situation rental/expiring contract and adjusting up for higher quality and down for position (center vs wing) than trying to figure out the value of player trade with term and control or the mess that is figuring out Eichel’s value.

He’s probably about ~2 firsts from a playoff team.

I don’t want to acquire any of those guys at those prices. A second for Monohan would make sense, I just don’t trust him to stay healthy. If we did acquire a centre, Aman would become injury insurance and can still get playing time by subbing in for us while we rest guys closer to the playoffs.

I wonder about dealing our 2nd rounder to Anaheim for Adam Henrique?

Edit: I do think Henrique would be the ideal target for us. He is yet another centre who can score, win draws, and has a bit of grit to his game. He is also good on the powerplay. He would immediately be the second best centre on the team, but could be used on any of our bottom three lines. Has played alright as a winger as well.

And he likely wouldn’t cost a 1st. He makes 5.8 this year so I’m not sure how we would fit him in, though.

I don’t want to give up on Kuzmenko, but Kuzmenko and a 4th for Henrique wouldn’t be terrible if the Ducks would do it.

I just hope we’re not trading our top prospects. I’d be fine with players like McWard, Bains and Raty but I’d be very disappointed if we trade Lekkeremaki, Willander, Bruz and D-Petey. I feel like it would undo a lot of goodwill this mgmt group has gotten, especially if we bum out of the playoffs in an early round

If Cody Hodgson can come out of retirement then why not Raymond and Ballard? Just throw in a 2nd in 2028 and all is good, right folks?

So Tarasenko would be a pure rental, while Toffoli was traded with term left. Tofu was also cheaper slightly…

I think that Tarasenko could be had for a lot cheaper considering that you’re only getting him for 20-30 regular season games + playoffs.

How is Tarasenkos value a 1st rounder and a roster spot? He’s not as good as he used to be

  8. BetterAd1611

Is there a chance Lekkermaki plays with us this season if he shows and plays well with Abby?

Monahan makes sense for the price and the type of player. Second line between Kuzmenko and Mikheyev, or 4th line between Hoglander and Lafferty both seem like good fits.

  10. Pass on Greenway, he doesn’t do anything

If we can grab a middle-six C for a 2nd and another piece, I’ll be happy

I am once again asking for Adam Henrique

  11. phantomgiratina

No to greenway, his cap hit doesn’t justify his impact if he were to slot into the bottom six

Great work! My thoughts are who would be the best play driver/motor to either power the 2nd line or to play with petey. Either way, i dont really think the pens would trade guentzle out from crosby like that they have played together jakes whole career. I would like lindholm, but i also think we need tanev back. My final thoughts are corey perry!! Why not? He’s gonna be league min, no big risk, and the guy can score and a playoff guy to boot. Love to see it happen. Go, nucks!

Interesting proposals though 50% is the max that can be retained on a contract.

Henrique or Vatrano are intriguing options as well. Batherson would be great but we don’t have what Ottawa would want. Alex Tuch or Lawson Crouse would be pipe dream types, they bring lots of what we’re missing.

  14. RelevantJackWhite

Nice work OP. I had to laugh at Greenway’s comparable being Greenway

  15. Lindholm @ 50% retained

    1st rounder, Suter, 3rd rounder

Is this reasonable and/or a good idea?

Going all in isn’t gonna be for free.

  16. Swecouver

No to Greenway, he’s so overrated bc of his frame. He’s Joshua 0.5 with a way bigger cap hit, who would slot into our bottom six at best the way he’s playing rn.

I mean I’d love Guentzel, but I don’t know what kind of package would work for both teams. Like, 1st, Hunter, and… Hoggy? I’d do it, but how do we make that work for cap space? I wouldn’t deal Lek or Willander, and D-Petey I’m also hesitant on, but still, we’d have to move out Kuz or Mik in this deal, and I don’t know what the appetite would be for the pens to take on either player. Monahan seems like a fit for our budget, cap situation, and needs though.
