Button: ‘Keefe either finds solutions, or they bring in somebody who can’

The Maple Leafs jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but it was the Oilers who showed pose and resilience climbing out of the hole to win their 11th straight game. TSN Director of Scouting Craig Button joins Jay Onrait to share his thoughts on the Leafs blowing their fourth straight game and the Oilers winning their 11th straight.

  1. It was a great game between 2 evenly matched teams. Both teams have their problems, as do the other 30 teams. There are no "perfect" teams in the NHL, only cup and non cup contenders. Both these teams look like playoff material. Once you make the playoffs, anything is possible. Firing Keefe is a huge mistake, any problems on the ice has to be figured out in the locker room between the players now, at this point in the season.

  2. The D is garbage they puck watch leaving players wide open in front of the net. The top guys like Willy and Tavares are not producing making over 11 million dollars. Keefe will be gone soon taking the fall for the team that can't hold a lead in the past 4 games.

  3. I wonder who pissed in Craig’s cornflakes! He was some wound up… tonight’s loss was not a surprise to me, his rant was a little over the top.

  4. look at their regulation wins and where it ranks in the league. you think thats a Cup contender?

they are the Dallas Cowboys of the NHL.

  5. It's pretty sad when Toronto blows a lead, loses the game and think they played a good game. They are in rough shape as a team and seem to like losing!

  6. The Keefe experience has to go…… wish Toronto cleaned house in front office…. T reliving is definitely not a good GM Good GM brings in a coach right away……. I hear woody and Manson are available.

  8. It’s Treliving’s fault. None of his signings has worked except for Jones. He didn’t learn from the previous regime and continued to double down on a top heavy team.

  9. Babcock was a better coach than Keefe. He was run out of town. Replace Keefe, the new coach will inherit the same issues. The team is over hyped . A 500 Club

  10. This guy is such a hack. When they signed Nylander he said they needed to keep the core 4 together. Now he's saying the right things.

Those of us who watch and pay attention know exactly what this team is. We don't need this guy to tell us jack squat.

  11. The leafs have no leadership. Tavares is not captain material, Keefe gets outcoached every game. But as long as fans keep going to games nothing will change.

  12. It’s always been Sheldon. Consistently out coached in games/series. He has had amazing assets to use. Good at building kids to play but he is mentally too slow to keep up when opposing teams adapt. Cooper vs. Sheldon. Enough said.

  13. I cant stand button, but he is right, our defense is so so shallow. Too much money into our offense in the off season. And tj brodie is absolutely terrible 😂

  14. There is a glaring difference in rosters. It’s zach Hyman a guy who competes at his hardest on every single shift. He’s an absolute game changer a spark plug a leader a team guy. Leafs don’t have a single

  15. Oilers all the way…. McDavid will lift the cup… WE BELIEVE 😎

(oh yeah, the Leafs are a mid league team, Tampa and/or Detroit will flip them over and have them 🤪)

  16. This is a little nuts….aren't they in the top ten in the league? I think the problem is the same as the old problem. Toxic fans and a disgusting media. Nobody else in the league does this to their teams.

  17. With the core four dominating the payroll, there’s no opportunity to build a well-balanced championship team. ✔️

  18. Listen Button, some of us are not wearing rose colored glasses, we know what's wrong with this team and it's been the problem since the early 2000s, defense has always been the issue. The Leafs have never had a Norris trophy winner in their history…We are pinning our goaltending hopes on a rookie with 26 games of experience, so, don't worry, we know that things are not lining up for much good…Reilly, Benoit and McCabe are half decent at best but you don't win anything with such a weak bunch of dmen. The 4th line is not even capable of doing what a 4th line is designed to do.
