  1. You guys are beating this Pettersson contract to death…… Similar to Marner not signing an extension with the Leafs couple years ago… no wonder Players would rather play in the US.

  2. Frank was excellent dropping a deep cut of wisdom for Petey to recognize he needs to know when to pivot from optimizing his personal situation to helping his management team optimize the group situation.

  3. Pete is not signing in Vancouver. Something is going on, whether it's with other players or staff. Sucks, but I would not be surprised if he's wearing another team's jersey in 2 years.

  4. I have an honest and sincere plea to the vancouver media: Please stop talking about the Pettersson contract. I take Petey at his word that he is focused and dialed in on THIS season and look at the results. Rutherford and Alvin have both publicly said there's no rush to these negotiations and despite how lovely it would be to have cost certainty on their best forward going into the trade deadline that's not going to hold them back. Obviously the team, the city and the media all want Petey to sign here long term… the best path toward that is NOT MAKING THIS A DISTRACTION during what could end up being one of the best seasons in Canucks history. Can we please learn the lessons of yesteryear and let this sleeping dog lay for another handful of months. You will have ALL offseason to make your money talking about Petey's next contract.

  5. Remember Pavel Bure and how the media pissed him off so bad that he wanted out of Vancouver so possibly could the same thing happen to E.Pette?

  6. If petty is too greedy he will get moved as the OEL cap penalty handcuffs the Canucks for a few years. however i see a deal getting done unless Petty would like to be elsewhere. Kuzmenko has to be moved at this point for a young prospect or active player not making a lot. I would be OK moving him for a veteran D like Taniff at the deadline or another D veteran elsewhere but this is just a rental for this year.

  7. He said he wanted the wait until the offseason and not have his contract be a distraction, y'all are literally making it a distraction. He is an RFA, canucks can match all offers, he cannot leave this offseason. Time to find something else to talk about and stop trying to push this guy out the door with this crap.

  8. There's an assumption here that the Canucks are handing him a blank cheque but maybe that is not the case. Also, Benning and Aquilini flexed on Pettersson on the first contract. Now Pettersson may be flexing on Aquilini. I don't think Benning was able to get in front of all of the bullets for Aquilini mistakes.

  9. Just a hunch, but maybe EP40 would rather sign in the off-season in order to avoid his mega-contract becoming a talking point during what could be a deep playoff run. And maybe he'll base how much term he commits to based on their playoff performance.

  10. Why does it always have to be an expert from outside the market that brings that brings some sanity to the Pettersson discussion? If Petey had signed when everyone started pestering him how much money would he have walked away from? It's only smart to cash any asset at the highest point as he is doing.

  11. canucks simply cannot overpay anybody at this point. use him till the end of the season, and trade him for picks. simple as that

  12. Not a really big deal, the media likes to make a mountain out of a mole hill. The Canucks got control of his services for this year and at least one more year if they chose to resign him. As much as i like Petey and what he brings to the table this year has proved to me that Milsy is a more important player, in fact Petey hasn't really played all that great until they moved him to Milsy's line. Paying him the kind of stupid money the media talks about is just like letting Toronto take over the negotiations. Their kind of way way way overpaying their star players is just getting worse and the effects of those stupid contracts hasn't even kicked in yet, wait till next year, lol. In my opinion the Canucks should offer Petey a contract that reflects his minimum qualifying offer of 8.82 million for 8 years and see if there are any teams stupid enough to pay him Stupid Toronto money, and if so take the 4 first round firsts and the big cap space. Four firsts and that much cap space is worth way more than Petey. They can always just go out and get another free agent center for a 2c and they will be just fine.

  13. The Aquilinis have always wanted a quick fix, so there's obvious pressure there on Rutherford and Allvin. Add to that how well the team is playing and there will be a great temptation for management to almost sell the farm on rentals and older players if they can squeeze them under the cap to try to make a run this year. I agree with Frank. As for Kuzmenko, he could be a huge asset in the playoffs if other lines aren't producing as long as they're not stupid enough to kill his confidence. We'll see. It's make or break time.

  14. I think there are a few things to consider
    – He said in august that he wanted to wait until after the season to talk contract, why is everyone surprised that he isnt signed yet?
    – When he said just before the season, I believe, that he wanted to wait and see the "direction" of the team before he decided to resign or not, someone from management said to reporters, if he isnt sure that he wants to resign, we are not sure we want to sign him. So its kind of a mixed message
    – I dont think that he wants to play on the wing in the long term, and if the Canucks wants to play him there, I think its a bad move and could impact his decision to resign

  15. Simple stuff. They sign him in the offseason to a 5-8 year contract or they trade him for a boatload. Either way it's a good thing. Let the guy play it out. That's his right. He doesn't want the distraction. The last contract negotiation screwed his season.

  16. I want to see the Canucks bring in some proven postseason bottom 6 performers. Though not necessarily these guys, Garnet Hathaway / Sam Bennett type players.

  17. Pettt is very close to hurting the team. Not there yet but you look at moving him by end of Feb. He wanted something better. He has got that so far to date. Pretty soon you have to think he looking to go elsewhere. Nice to see himm sign but someone has to say enough. Not there yet but just around the corner. trade him to ottawa if he doesnt come around..
