Canucks news: Canucks re-sign defenceman Olli Juolevi to a one-year, $750k contract



Canucks GM Jim Benning announced today that the club has re-signed defenceman Olli Juolevi to a one-year contract at a value of $750,000.

    A signing that probably means that Juolevi will be betting on himself and getting real time with the Canucks, or just a depth contract, which will turn into a multi-year at some point.

    Solid deal at 750k. A Prove it deal for Olli and with that cap hit and flexibility it allows him to get into the roster on more nights than perhaps some of the more expensive options. I think Olli is taking less than his QO to bet on himself

    Well Benning gave him the shortest possible contract for the least amount of money possible. So people can't really complain about Benning.

    Buddy was scratched for quite awhile after scoring his first goal, don't feel like Juolevi was really given a fair chance to prove himself, especially considering the crazy year of corona.

    He has an eye to hit the net from the blue line but he needs to improve in his all around defensive game…slow foot speed

    I like the signing. It sort of says that the Canucks like his game and don't want to see him get discouraged if they can't use him right away on the big club.

    trash deal he will have to pay higher next contract for taking discount and juolevi will be ufa sooner.

    I think I’d rather go long term with Hughes, and short term with Petey. Just given the fact that Quinn can’t get offer sheeted and every other benefit that comes with the 10.2 clause, I think it gives Benning a better opportunity to get Hughes signed for the long term right now. Petey will most likely want more than 9m for a long term deal anyway

    I can see:
    8m6y Hughes
    7.5m3y for Petey
    2.5m4y for Dickinson

    We’ll still have Petey at RFA once his deal expires as well, which is good.

    I think this deal shows true character and self motivation from Juolevi! You can tell he wants to stay. Try and make it in training camp, and play for the Canucks this up and coming season.
    Big win for the group.

    I like the contract. Juolevi will provide some depth, and it shows the Canucks aren't quite ready to give up on him. Although this could be his last chance. I don't know for certain, but I never got the impression Green trusts Juolevi's game very much, not that he's done anything to earn that trust. If Juolevi can't improve his game under Brad Shaw, then the Canucks will probably cut their losses…kind of odd to think of Juolevi as a reclamation project since they are the ones who drafted him. Thanks Clay!

    Seems harsh at first glance but its really a fair deal. Schenn, 2X cup champ and proven veteran is making barely more than Juolevi. I am getting pretty sick of waiting for both Huggy Bear and EP40 to sign though. When do you think that will happen, I am guessing very close or maybe even after the start of camp.

    Given the fact that Oli has only played the equivalent of one pro season in overall games played in the pro's, it is a reasonable deal for both parties. Hopefully the injury bug will stay away from him and he get a good pro season under his belt. I thought he played a lot better by the end of the season, so i think he will be alright once he gets some experience.

    7,000.000 petterson 6,314,441 hughes and dickerson gets furlands lti 3,500,00 not counting the salary of who gets sent down to the farm .
