Igor: thoughts!
With Igor curently slumping, what is the best way to get him out of this?
It seems like there will be some decisions from the first year coaching staff if they want to play Quick more. Knowing that Igor gets in his head about his play, is that the best option?
Personally, I’d love to see Igor sit out from the ASG and focus on his mentals. It likely won’t happen because it’s a prestigious factor that he can use in future contracts, and honestly he might want reps against the NHL’s best.
If you had a choice, how’d you handle this?

I really wish he would have the all star break off. Dude needs a mental reset.
& obviously I mean first year rangers coaching staff. Just because it’s more sensitive coming in then it they were here the whole time. Coaching staff seems to be very well liked and could lose favor if they do something controversial to the room.
I personally think he should play in the ASG. It’s usually deflating for a goalie to get scored on a bunch in the ASG when they’ve had a great season but since Igor hasn’t had a great season it may help him relax and have some fun with it. He can’t play much worse than he’s been playing.
Imo the team needs to prioritise rock solid defence so we’re not finding ourselves down by two+. If we can string together a couple of close games I think Igor will start to get his groove back, and everyone’s confidence will increase
Better than being minus, i guess
How do we help Igor you ask? With D that actually shows up every night and plays a full 60
2 thoughts on igor. Either he is still not 100% recovered from his injury earlier or he has just regressed this year.
Im leaning towards the latter at this point due to what we have seen this year. Sample size is big enough, he was struggling still when our def was playing better and vally has called him out for some poor mechanics. Luckily we have the goat coach for him but its beyond a slump, he just has been outright bad on a lot of the goals he gives up.
And like someone said in the pgt, we have bled chances and let up way too many goals in the first 5 mins.
We need a more even split of him and quick until he rights the ship because we only go as far as igor takes us. And while ppl tend to blame the def mostly, igor has shown to be way better and he has let up a lot of goals that he easily stops 95 out of 100 times.
Defense has to be better but we are past the point where igor shouldnt be getting blame too
Igor can certainly shoulder some of the blame here, but we have to acknowledge the team in front of him. I know people want Igor to steal game after game, but he’s getting no goal help up front since our forwards can’t score 5v5, the D in front of him is absolutely atrocious, and we still expect him to kick out 35+ wins a season. It feels like Igor is following in the same footsteps as Hank.
Elite goalie who had back to back good years, was good in the playoffs, is having a rough season. We’re also relying on him more which will make his job harder to push for more offense. He’ll be fine come playoff time
Would rather see Igor and the whole team go thru these types of struggles now than later in the season. Seems like learning how to fight thru this type of adversity now can really help come playoffs. Still got plenty of faith they will all find their stride at the right time.
Igor has 100% been slumping and not bailing the team out like a good/elite goalie should, the defense is also practically non-existent.
That being said, Stanley cup winning teams can get by with average goaltending. It’s all about finding the defense. Which I think is a bigger problem than Igor stinking this year. Even a stinky Igor is better than your average goalie. If the Rangers can hone in on fixing the defense, I think this team can turn it around.
He should’ve waited to have a kid until we won the cup
I’m 99.99% certain his new baby has something to do with this
Irregardless of poor team defense in front of him, Igor is playing like an average goalie this year. Even with a perfect team up front average goalies can’t get you through the playoffs. So yes, Igor is not doing what he needs to do.
Frankly you don’t need stats, just watch a game. His rebound control is inconsistent. He is picking up point shots late. He’s pulling himself out of the net too often. He is giving up goals in bunches. His glove has gotten worse.
All that said, we know what he can do and he has it in him to turn this around. I really hoped the Kraken game would be a turning point. Great example of the kind of game you need as a contender. Even with a good all around game, you need your goalie to make some big saves when the score is close. He had a great second period stepping up.
I’ve mentioned it before – this Igor season just makes me even more amazing by Hank. Bonkers that he was able to be so consistently great for so long.
Goaltending voodoo is some real shit
Get him a full time nanny
Avs fan here. This is eerily similar to what’s going on with Georgiev. It’s odd how it seems to be happening at the same time.
This is kind of common for goalies IMO. That is what made Henrik so great. He was a top goalie that considered one of the best each year throughout his career. It’s the same thing with closers in baseball. Mariano Rivera was amazing every year, but most closers have a **much** smaller window where they are considered “elite.”
