"After signing Nylander to an 8 year/$11.5M AAV extension, we now show the Leafs have a projected cap hit of $66,438,000 in 2024-25, based on 14 contracts (9F-3D-2G) currently on the active roster. This leaves $21.062M in cap space for 9 spots." Nylander also has a full no movement clause throughout the 8 year contract. Good luck Leafs!
He probably deserves it based on this year. But looking at the last 3-4 years, it looks rich. Between this contract and AM's extension, Leafs have 1.5M to pay the rest of the team despite the cap increase. They'll need more league minimum players next year.

Pretty much every team has a goal scorer, so nothing rare about Nylander. Everyone wants a set up man, that's Marner. I've seen 60 years of Europeans having an unusually great year when contract talks start. Get 2 1st rd draft picks from San Jose or Arizona for Nylander come draft day.

Everyone who doesn't understand the cap in here is going off full retard. Because of different taxes in different states and provinces, Toronto and Ottawa essentially have the lowest cap. Players net salary is what matters. Fringe players especially are far better off playing for American teams. If Marner signed the same contract in FL, at it's conclusion he would have 8.5 million more dollars IN HIS ACCOUNT. Rosehill didn't even make that gross over his entire career.
Wow! It looks as though Nylander won't be worrying about paying the rent anytime soon. I am guessing Marner is going to want around $12.5 M when he's up next year. Also, Tavares is up and likely will take a bump down, from $11 M to, say, $8 M. If you then add up the core 4, with Matthews' $13.25 M, the total comes to a staggering $45.25 M. It really boggles the mind.
Your getting shit for Marner. He will have his best season next year and go to free agancy and take the best deal from another team. Leaving leafs with nothing other then cap space.
