  1. "Control the boards,
    control the game"
Nailed it, really is that simple.
    Yet not easy.
Youve seen this- goalies have to know the boards

It's the battles on the boards that absolutely count, but knowing how to employ the boards as an additional asset on the ice creates mismatches.

that's how we get younger defensemen to contribute & excel quickly.

It takes time and experience to skate, stick handling – repetition, that's on the player
    – can't speed that process up other than each individual putting in time away from practices

But the board work skills coaching separates out young hockey players from kids who want to play hockey.

When you get them young, they're not afraid to battle the boards

    Using the boards to pass-
They develop a long vision- learn how to play all 200 ft from day one. And that's how we find them.

Even when they're on low level teams, they can excel because they can pass the puck to themselves off the boards.

I've seen Board work skills coaching change smart players' games in less than a week.

those kids get bumped up to play with older players & improve fast if they can keep up.

Been in awe of a few kids under 5 ft skating circles around 6 ft guys… Cuz they know how to use those boards. Can pass the puck to themselves.

They need to say that to more kids coming up in hockey –
"control the boards, control the game"

But we'll let the novices learn how to take a slapshot without falling on their rear end every time… That's always amusing watching those folks at public stick & puck!

They all get out there like Pasta or Sid, as soon as they lift their sticks to take shot?

they don't know to set their skates, lose their balance and bounce off the ice.
    😆

We only laugh after we know they're ok.

    "Control the boards
    control the game."

From the dirty puck battles to employing those boards as a 6th 7th 8th player on the ice.

    I like it!
