The only time I’ve ever seen this magazine was in 90’s comedies as a “lol bikini issue” joke. It’s actually a surprise to me thats its even still around.

Says a lot that three of the “great memories” are variant covers of the same issue
I remember a cover that had Gretzky and Larry Bird with a headline that read, “Simply the Best.” Maybe it was from somewhere else.

I used to love reading sports illustrated. When I was in high school English class, my teacher was a very old woman who surprisingly had a stack of sports illustrated magazines in the corner of her classroom. I happened to sit in that corner so over the course of the year I read through every issue she had. I particularly liked the article that was written by the same guy in every issue, it was the very last article in the back. This was in 2007-2008 but I can’t remember the writer.
Anyway, old lady English teacher noticed me reading it constantly and she called me to stay after class one time and told me she also loved the article in the back and always noticed me reading it. That writer was the whole reason she read the magazine and had a subscription. This must have convinced her that I had good taste in writing, and that I was obviously a good student in English class despite me reading magazines the whole time. She gave me good grades on everything that year.

I used to be a sports photographer and I would have never submitted a photo that didn’t clearly have the player’s number in it. Maybe others didn’t care but it was a huge pet peeve of mine.
Anyone else thinks Gretzky looks like Connor Berard in the “Sportsman of the Year” photo??

That last slide looks like Warwick Davis is playing Ovi in a biopic.

It’s sad that magazines are a dying medium, but I get it. As a teenager, nothing disappointed me more (other than my lackluster love life) than my issue of SI NOT arriving by Friday. Getting it on Monday meant all of the NFL articles were obsolete.

Jesus Christ I read “today’s devastating news” over a picture of Gretzky and about had a heart attack

Just reminds me how sick Bishop’s old Lightning mask was
RIP print media. If SI is going down that ship has for sure sailed (obviously this has been dying for 20 years but to see something like this collapse, wow).

My dad subscribed to SI in the ’80’s. I never saw him read it – he was more into Forbes and Fortune, but it was always lying around so I’d pick it up, read it, even cut out stories like that Gretzky one, and post it in my scrap book. I think it was a small gesture for us to connect on. Amazing what one takes for granted, at least until the old guy dies, and then you sort of get it. Huh, thanks SI, haven’t thought of you in years.

[This one](https://vault.si.com/.image/t_share/MTY5MDk4MzYwNTQwOTY0MzE1/711137—cover-thumbnail-image.jpg) is probably the most misunderstood cover that I can think of, and is usually used by some extremely dull people to “prove” something that they weren’t even alive to see.
Go woke, go broke.
You missed some of the absolute BEST covers, lol…

So a magazine ended up on the floor. Who cares?
All those Gretzky covers are amazing.
You trying to make people think Gretzky dead!? Fuck.. anyway what happened to pk becoming a tv guy
Man seeing Alex Martinez on that cover…. it’s remarkable that he’s still playing at such a high level
I was hoping Kathy Ireland or Cindy Crawford in their bikinis would be the last one.
That picture of Syd in full stride is a ferocious photo
SI hasn’t been “dropped”. All it’s employees were fired for no reason. If you’re going to post about it, get your facts right.
That Kings headline didnt age well
Fluffiest mullet ever.
How did you not include the most famous SI hockey cover of all time? The Miracle on Ice cover?
Blackhawks – 1 Model Franchise…. Aged like milk.
Look at those golden locks, the Great One had a hell of a salad.

I mean it’s not really devastating at all
