  1. I don't think that Columbus would trade Elvis to a division rival, so I don't see him ending up in NJ or Carolina. Of the teams you mentioned, I think Toronto would be the most likely candidate.
They could also send him to a lousy team, kinda punishing him…Chicago or San Jose have plenty of cap space.

  2. Can't believe the CBJ might let this guy walk… Come on, he's paid like a number 1, give him the net time of one.

But honestly if I was a buyer before the TDL with a tight cap, I'd look for dept with youngsters with min contracts/entry level, etc. I'd have a look at the 2 youngsters in front of MTL, maybe not Monty (don't think they want to trade him, and looking at his stats + team in front, I'd understand why), but that Primeau guy is basically free with no cap hit, and I've been impressed by the guy, because I thought his career would be in the AHL or something, but he's looked solid now that I'm looking into it. That team have real high end talent in their prospect pool so would let him go no issue IMHO.
Allen can help a team for dept or solid backup, but it would need some salary retention, the good news is that his contract is over after this season or the next I think (or soon, right? Not a Habs fan so IDK exactly).

Goaltenders are unpredictable (outside of stars in their late 20s and their 30s, and even then it's can vary by a lot; + good during reg season vs playoffs, etc)… So acquiring a long term goalie paid as 1a or 1b in a 50/50 or 60/40 tandem, it's more stuff you do during the offseason. Right now "dept" is more important, and when I say that it may very well be THE one for your teams' playoffs if iron hot (Hamburgler Syndrome).
I'm sure you guys know what I mean in general here.

Also, if you're a team REALLY is looking for a number 1 and you have some cap space/flexibility though, I'd have a look a guys like Gibson or. even more so Markstrom, before throwing 5M+ long term with Elvis… Right? Considering everything including cap, etc.?
Elvis has so been tested for a long stretch like any of those 2 lately unless I'm wrong.

Either way I feel we'll see much more trades involving goalies before the TDL from competing teams, because many of them definitely need help at that position if they hope for a deep playoff run, and for some, need the help to reach said playoffs (and perform once there). I don't think many would want to go to Toronto though, if you know what I mean here (not a team built for playoff success AND becoming the strawman for millions of fans I'm sure isn't great for a goalie eh…).

  3. Personally I would say the most likely candidates are New Jersey and Buffalo. In Edmonton he would be competing with Skinner who is better in Carolina he would be the starter at first but only because of injuries to Andersen and Kotchekov once they come back there’s no guarantee that Merzlikins would be the starter.

  4. Do you think Lavoie actually has much value? I know I covet him as a former Moosehead, and he's doing great in the minors, but has yet to show those flashes in the NHL. Thinking a more prominent/consistent role on another team might wake up the beast.

Great job, buddy. Making this hometown boy proud. Sharing these with as many friends as I can.

  5. Not sure how it would work but I could see the Blackhawks being involved in an Elvis trade. If they traded Mrazek, they might want Columbus as a third team and through in Elvis then he would be the number one in Chicago and then whatever other team only has mrazek for the rest of this season

  6. Deal or no deal coming soon? Lots of guys on the block like Zegras and Kuzmenko and with the Cutter trade it shows any trade is possible rumors or not.

  7. The jackets have been in the dumps since they got rid of their Hall of Famer goalie. Quick was their backbone /s

  8. Elvis is a good goalie, but 3 more years at 5,4m basically kill any value, especially as it`s public now.
Everyone knows how tight all teams are vs. the cap.
Take the Leafs – you need to get out Samsonov (3,55m UFA) and need to find another 1,85m to make it work. Reaves is only at 1,35m so Columbus would need to eat 500k for 3 more years. And how do you work out that 5,4m contract long term? Even when it`s 4,9m?
Take the Oilers – they would like to add a 90,6 SV% goalie, but they need another RW, a 3rd line Center and an RD upgrade. Right now they need to pay their 1st to get Campbell off and cap space free, only then they can find pieces. They are Skinners team now, and i doubt they put the priority on a goalie.
Especially as Merzlikins is not without a risk.

Devils or Canes is what i can see, as they really have a need. Their season is really harmed by bad goaltending.
While on the opposite, the Oilers didn`t had good goaltending earlier, but the way they played defense was just not NHL worthy.

If you need a goalie, do you really want to bet on Merzlikins with a 5,4m contract for 3 years and might wake up in the summer with a Campbell problem?
I would take a look at San Jose, there guys are fairly paid and don`t stop bad on a really bad team.
Or you look at MAF, Minnesota is kinda done already.

  9. How about ottawa trades korpisalo back to cbj for merzlikins straight up. Korpisalo has history in Columbus and elvis would be the number 1 in Ottawa

  10. LATVIA MENTIONED RAHHHHπŸ¦…πŸ¦…πŸ¦…πŸ¦…πŸ¦…πŸ‡±πŸ‡»πŸ‡±πŸ‡»πŸ‡±πŸ‡»πŸ‡±πŸ‡»

  11. Seattle is a potential place where Merziklins or Allen could go, they are running with Daccord as their number 1
