I will say, the tripping call against Svechnikov (2:45) was very similar to the tripping call against Savard (3:30). Otherwise pretty bad.
Hello all…Caniac and season ticket holder here…the cold hard facts are this, the Canes always shoot themselves with too many unforced penalties. I also observe BS ref calls too. The bottom line is the Canes need to improve their passing, and penalty frequency. Especially in key moments in the game. It's been this way the last 3 seasons. Rod doesn't seem to do anything about. (If he can.) I will be there on Tuesday, hoping for a win. See you there.
The hook from Staal at 1:29 doesn't look like a hook to me. I don't understand how you can be under someone and hooking them.

Worst officiated game I've seen and I watched all the Canes vs Preds games.
This officiating is an absolute joke. How is the NHL ever going to have a chance at sports betting if the the quality of officiating is getting progressively worse.
A few soft calls and one blatant no-call (Sergachev), but mostly just silly penalties from undisciplined/heated players.
This comment section is exactly why I want Carolina to lose. Your team took way too many penalties. The only miscall here was against Staal. The referees are bad sometimes, but they aren't bad every time you lose. Deal with it.
1st Canes – Bad call (especially for the playoffs)
2nd Canes – Light call but affected a scoring chance
3rd Canes – Stick on skate (if he would have had his stick blade turned the opposite way, he prob would have gotten away with it)
1st Bolts – Stick on skate, easy call
4th Canes – Bad hit, went for the head
5th Canes – Obvious hold to prevent a 2 on 1 scoring chance
6th Canes – View from over the ref's shoulder looks like an elbow or forearm to the head (prob could have called Sergachev for x-check, but was more of a push than a hit)
2nd Bolts – either off-balance or sold it hard
The league really needs to get refs who are at least a little bit consistent to officiate playoff games. The thing is, they're somewhat consistently calling small offenses and letting bigger things go most of the time, so you never know what to expect.
I'm not even a Canes fan but I had to turn the game off. I've never seen a more unevenly called game.

for every call there were 5 non calls. No rhyme or reason to the way penalties are called.
