Hey, Let’s Do a Tyler Seguin Video

I have to say, Tyler Seguin has never had a boring season. He generates plenty of opinions, both positive and negative, sometimes in the same game.

  1. Have you ever thought about formatting these videos in podcast format? I would love to listen to these as much as I'm in the car. Just a thought!

  2. I think he’s a number one center that every franchise needs (duh). So in that sense, yes he’s a franchise player. Idk about the HOF but let’s see if he wins a Cup and then we can reevaluate.

As for his partying and off ice stuff. You never hear about him getting in fights, getting arrested, hitting or behaving inappropriately around women, etc. So while he likes having a good time he never seems to put himself in bad situations. Also a DJ friend of mine in Dallas says he’s a cool guy…bought him some shots one night

  3. Big fan of Seguin and his game, he's a big reason I've kept an interest in Dallas.

Guess that's why I bought his jersey. When Jim came out and said that about their game, it kinda frustrated me cause Benn and Segs both still work hard, even if it doesn't necessarily reflect in their playing on ice. Your perspective is nice though, helps me manage my expectations of his game and I like to think they just bought into a more team oriented style.

  4. Honestly I have no issues with Tyler's play in the playoffs. He's improved in other areas of his game and is still a positive presence with the team. I'd love to see him score one big goal in these finals, but we'll have to see. As far as HOF goes, I really don't see it. He'd need to achieve quite a lot with his remaining years and I think his best offensive years are behind him.

  5. I feel like this is one of the video stuttered the most (not a bad thing) because he didn’t want to offend anyone and was searching the right terms and stuff

  6. I think the achilles tendon cut took him down 2 pegs. He hasn't seemed the same since. Everyone forgets to mention that. Probably not the easiest thing to recover from in hockey. The last two coaches have also not utilized him in his strengths and seem to be trying to get him to be more defensive. Put the man on the dots and let him rip some damn one-timers. Same issue with Pavelski. Why the hell do they play him on the point on the power plays? He is easily one of the best offensive net front players. Stars seem to want their veteran players to "continue to grow".

  7. He has 2 goals in 21 games in the playoffs, if they win the cup it isn't because of his offensive contributions. I think Seguin should reach about 550 goals and 1200-1300 pts for his career but the way he produced this year that maybe over shooting it a bit, solid 2nd line center for sure but not franchise player. HoF is dependent on the numbers i mentioned and grabbing at least 1 more cup win.

  8. There's no way Seguin ever gets HOF consideration – he's never been dominant enough even for a season. He'll need like 3-4 cups to get a "winner" consideration. Too many more impressive players well ahead of him.

  9. The maturity thing is a common buzz word used when a player did something that the team had to cover up usually. I personally don't see it being booze related, but there have always been guys who take that too far. Drugs maybe? I don't see a team able to dump a problem player on another team without a rehab thing happening that becomes public. Then there's the problems with the ladies, You are this young guy, making some money, people cheering your name, maybe get a local girl or three in a bit of trouble, or touch some forbidden fruit that management or team members are involved/upset with, well that's a fast ticket out, and can be a cancer to a locker room. This is Boston however, he could have been shipped out because he was complaining about his ice time and they thought he was over concerned with personal numbers, or maybe did not have the off ice work ethic of the players around him. In Boston you are part of a Team, you do your job, you do it as best you can, if not you wont be in Boston long. Truth is who knows in this case, he was def decided to be a problem, but I don't think Boston missed him in the end, and he hasn't been a bad fit for the Stars, so maybe it was not the horrible move I thought it was at the time.

  10. To me there are 3 tiers when discussing really good players, its 1. Players that are locks for the Hall of Game, 2. Players who are on the edge of getting in, who might get in, and 3. the players who are really good but clearly wont make the Hall of fame. You seem to have Seguin in the nr2 category while I have him in the 3rd category. he is really good and has performed steadily as a top6 center but he has no personal awards, his points per average is already 0.86 as a 28 year old. He would have to increase his production for a few years over what he has previously performed rather than starting to decline in order to be in the Hof conversation, imo. I dont things 2 rings will be enough, rings is something that help borderline players get in, and I dont Seguin is quite there.

  11. If you could choose to take back one of these Boston trades, who would it be: Tyler Seguin or Blake Wheeler? No one talks about the Wheeler trade but he's been great for the Jets.

  12. He was an amazing center who got old and is now more of a defensive 3rd/4th line style center. Not hall of fame worthy because he couldn’t keep up the production

  13. I am a Dallas Star fan and I like Tyler Seguin, but if I'm honest, I don't think that he would have been Centering the top 3 lines of that 1999 season (which won the Cup), but I could see him as a Forward on the second line. I think that he is better than people give him credit.for being, and being on a line with Benn has helped him,but I'm not sure about him being HOF.

  14. I feel like Boston would’ve been way better off if they had traded Krejci instead of Seguin. That might have been a difference maker in 2014 finals.

  15. Not enough for HoF imo. If Dal wins the cup, I can't say he's done much more this year compared to that play-offs when in Bos. Bos would have won without him and I think Dal can win this year without him, no doubt.
He's a great point producer at times when he seem to put the work in, but in my eyes not in the upper tier of franchise players. I don't think he's a player that I would remember as -oh yeah the Tyler Seguin era in Dal…

  16. Just wish Segs stayed in Boston. Now he’s 28 while two of our best centers are hitting 35+. Not much tread left on those tires. Krejci and Bergeron are a concussion away from retirement.

  17. I live in Dallas, and when I heard “Collins” county it caught my attention. That’s a typo on the website. It’s off of Collins Blvd in Richardson, TX, which is in Collin County

  18. Based on a documentary I saw when Seguin was traded, all the GMs, managers, scouts etc… basically thought Seguin wasn't enough of a thug. That's why he was traded.

  19. Big Stars fan here. Really like Seguin and all he's done (and hoping he adds to the score sheet in the finals) but are we really that thin on nominees for the hall of fame? Needs to move the needle more consistently to get it done for mine

  20. Without Comeau, Seguin would be the most useless player in the team. Looking seasonal stats feels odd, if you can't perform when it matters.

  21. Supposing he's not a big go-to guy, but does get another championship or two: does he CARE that he doesn't get into the HOF? Legit question. Because you look at guys who probably will get in/are in who feel like they SHOULD have won a cup and never did (Iginla, the Sedins, etc) and which do you think they'd rather be? Hall of fame players, or multiple championship winners?

  22. I don't think what he's done so far in his career warrants any hall of fame consideration. By and large he was the player he was because of Jamie Benn. So, unless Seguin has a few more 80+ point seasons, he's not gonna be remembered for much. Signed, a jaded Seguin hockey fantasy league owner.

  23. Maturity is a key component to being at the top of your game. Seguin has matured a ton. HOF if he wins this year and continues to play elite hockey. I.e. 70+ point seasons and playoffs for 5 or more years.

I don't see enough Dallas hockey to say for sure, but it seems like the team has been improving over the last few years and this year they have a touch of destiny.

    Great work again Shannon

  24. Is Tyler Seguin a guy you build your team around? If you are building a team from scratch how many players at his position would you rate above him?

Very good player? Yes. Elite? No.

  25. I still wish we never traded Seguin. At least not in the trade we did to get rid of him. He also played a key role in the 2011 Tampa series when Bergeron was injured, Seguin stepped up and filled his shoes and turned that series around.

  26. As a Bruins fan I still hate that we traded him…epic mistake. He could be that killer 2C that we really need right now.
