GAME RECAP: Penguins at Golden Knights (01.20.24) | Guentzel Scores 20th Goal of Season

After four days without a game, the Pittsburgh Penguins traveled across the country to take on the Vegas Golden Knights. From the drop of the puck, the speed of the game was fast. Both teams were generating chance after chance but the 1st ended scoreless. It wasn’t until halfway through the 2nd, Ryan Graves skated the puck low into the zone. From behind the goal line, Graves threw the puck towards the front of the net. Deflecting off a foot, the puck changed direction and went into the net. Shortly after gaining the lead, the Penguins added to it. Jake Guentzel scored his 20th goal of the season. The start of the 3rd told a different story. Vegas scored twice in a 2-minute period to tie the game and shift the momentum quickly. Building off their goals, the Golden Knights then took their first lead of the night. A tic-tac-toe sequence ended with the puck in the back of the net. Vegas held their 3-2 lead for the remainder of the game. Able to complete the comeback, the Golden Knights defeated the Penguins.

  1. Thought I was prepared for a loss; big team with depth, just beat the Rags 5-1. But I let the first and second periods get my hopes up. 🤦🏻‍♀️

  2. What a great comeback by the VGK! Incredible goaltending by Thompson just to keep us in the game, especially in the 2nd period! It is nice to see the newcomers stepping up when we have so many on the IL!!
