Keefe: It’s only a 1 game losing streak.

I’m not a fan of ~~J.T. Butkis~~ JD Bunkis, but he had Kris Versteeg on the other day. Kris was highlighting all of the technical breakdowns in our D-Zone, saying that it looks as if we’ve taken good players and given them no plan. There is no cohesive system as to who takes whom when entering the D-Zone. He also highlighted the lack of consistency within the lines and how that is detrimental to players growing in their roles. Players that are playing well don’t seem to get rewarded, and no one other than the stars seem to have a clear goal while on the ice.
With all of the systematic issues we have; PK, D-zone, simple breakout passes, etc, I can’t see any way that this coach survives this week. He seems incapable of using any players that make less than 6.9 mill. Bertuzzi and Domi have both been successfully deployed by multiple coaches, yet Keefe seems flabbergasted by them.
You have to wonder if Keefe is simply a product of Dubas’ system. He has one way of winning because Dubas primarily acquired the same type of player. That being said, Treliving clearly has a different philosophy when it comes to team building, so this lineup is obviously a mish-mash of players. Given time, acquisitions, and coaching, I’m sure it will improve.
With the way things are headed, a tired game tomorrow followed by Winnipeg twice, is Keefe behind the bench against the Isle after the All Star Game???
Its hard to imagine beating Seattle tired with Samsonov in net tonight… then 2 against Wpg… we’re a .500 team right now, with a real chance of falling below that mark and slipping out of our wildcard spot. It seems very possible we go into the ASG below .500 and not a playoff team.
