Maybe people will actually appreciate what guys like Holl and Kerfoot brought to the team defensively.

  2. Bad roster construction. Of the new guys— Bertuzzi, Domi, Reaves, Klingberg, Gregor–who is a penalty killer? No one. Treliving had to replace what Holl, and Kerfoot brought. He didn’t.

  3. To me it’s combination of not being aggressive enough on the pk and having aging defense who cant close gaps fast enough and have a hard time boxing out. Especially Brodie/gio.

Man though it really feels like we give guys way too much time to walk in for a good shot and crowd the front instead. Except then we end up losing our guys in front and they score on the rebound of it tips in or goes straight in because the goalie can’t see.

I hate how easily we give up the point.

None of those teams listed are playoff contenders. Leafs are in trouble.

Whats with all the love for guys like Holl and Kerfoot? Damn those guys sucked and never won shit for this team. WTF are you people talking about? Just because those shitty players were replaced with shitty performing players, doesn’t make them good. Holl and Kerfoot still suck.

  6. I don’t think people realize that you can coach defence . It also doesn’t help that goal tending hasn’t been good at all either. Not saying this is all on Keefe and Samsonov/Jones but you can coach a player to be responsible, if not good defensively.

Also , last season Vegas finished the season with 77% on the PK and was 19th in the entire league and would be 25th this season. Oh and the Jets are conveniently cut off in the picture by the way, they’re 25th this year.

I’m banking on sneaking into the playoffs then going on a run like Florida last year. We must have faith!

Cannot have good penalty killing with substandard goalkeeping.

They are way to passive inside their own end when killing penalties. They all just stand around. They need to be more aggressive if you give the opposing team that much time they will find a way to score.

I can’t imagine how a team with that gets less D than a nun would be bad at killing off penalties.

Giordano is painful to watch these days

At a certain point, you’ve seen enough coaches and players move through the team without any significant improvement in competitiveness that the problem has to be more than the players or coach. There is an atmosphere about that team that is killing it.

It’s sad that we need Justin Holl back on this roster

So I know this is just conversion success – but the Leafs actually rank 8th in xGA (lowest amount of goals) on the PK and rank 10th (highest) in actual goals against. I want to say the difference has really been goaltending on most of these teams but I also think maybe the Leafs PK system is not as good as it has been or the personnel we lost in Kerfoot and Holl is showing. Teams are getting bailed out by goaltending, but there are a few teams like the Canes (who I think have regularly had a strong PK system) who are getting a full 2% less saves than the Leafs, but have allowed 7 less goals on the PK.

    Canes GA: 23, xGA: 22, sv%: .827%

    Leafs GA: 30, xGA: 28, sv% .848%

An entire thread of people saying they miss Holl and Kerfoot… last year I was called a ton of not so nice names in this sub for saying moving those guys was a mistake

I’m just waiting for all the chirps again when we lose in the first round

  17. I’m not saying we should, but should we end the experiment of playing Willy and Papi on the PK? Leave that work for defensive players?

  18. Why do the Leafs continue the PK disaster of using Brodie and Giordano every time. I’m willing to bet those two are on the ice more often than any other Leafs defenceman when PP goals are scored. Kamph always seemed good when he had Engvall as a PK partner, but hasn’t been as efficient since. Apart from his shorthanded goal last night, Marner is not the same this season on the PK. And, maybe let the experiment of using Nylander towards the end of a PK stop as well.
