I was just reading a Hockey News article about this. Apparently Roy likes Analytics and the 4th line was struggling. They were giving up too many chances against and not much possession so they only played around 8 minutes each.

For better or worse, I think Roy is probably our first coach that looks to analytics, at least openly.

They haven’t been playing well. And it worked. Good for Roy

It’s almost like Roy wanted to try and win during regulation…

I never understood what it meant to have the best fourth line in hockey. That’s like saying we’re under achieving at the other three lines, but here we go we can try it out the top fourth line to contend with any of your other three lines and that means something. Martin is old. Clutter is old and hurt. These two are extremely expensive and more than likely taking up roster spots that could be used elsewhere in the organization. The jury’s out on Zeeker. I still think he’s a solid contributor and better than a fourth line player.

But my point is not about the parts alone rather the sum of the parts, and how as islander fans we go and laud them like we have something special. It’s a once was thing that was good, but is in obvious decline and at some point needs to be addressed in order to better this team.

  5. I am glad we brought in someone from outside the organization. Someone who can objectively look at the players with no attachment and be like ok you actually suck.
