The Dallas Stars battled over the weekend to take three out of the possible four points after a tough overtime loss to the New York Islanders last night. Jake Oettinger was out with the flu, so Scott Wedgewood had to make back to back starts and went save for save against Ilya Sorokin who’s one of the best goalies in the NHL. On today’s episode of Locked On Stars, Joey recaps the weekend games between New York and New Jersey including the Stars great ability to bounce back after bad games. Wyatt Johnston, Jason Robertson, and Roope Hintz have provided a spark as a new line and thriving the more they play together. Even when the Stars are fatigued, they’re finding way to muster up enough energy and effort to at least earn themselves a point. Nils Lundkvist returned to the lineup after Miro Heiskanen went down with an injury and he has made the most out of his return. He seems to be a lot more confident and poised with the puck. Also, he’s using his legs and mobility to generate offense, he finished last night with four shots on goal and scored his 2nd of the season. The Stars would have to feel much better about their defense if Lundkvist is an every day player when Miro returns. Joey states that you have to accept that he will be out muscled and make mistakes here and there, but the improvements are promising. To finish off the episode, we revisit the possibility of Heiskanen joining the team on the road trip. He has yet to travel with the team, but he is inching closer everyday to return. Joey thinks having him back in the lineup against the Ducks on Thursday would be a gentle introduction back and set himself up nicely at home with a few more days of rest. Having Miro back will do wonders for the Stars in all facets of the game.
